YOUTH OUTREACH WORKER
1 Full Time Term Vacancy


SUMMARY:
The Youth Outreach Worker’s primary responsibility is to support urban Indigenous youth and young adults (ages 18-29) experiencing homelessness or at risk of insecure housing, by providing responsive participant-based andone-to-one services. The Youth Outreach Worker will support youth and young adults in identifying, accessing andnavigating adult service systems relevant to their housing needs and transition to adulthood. This position will usea strengths-based, trauma-informed approach and will collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team tocoordinate services and support in consultation with individuals and partnering programs.


QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Post-secondary education in Social Services or Child & Youth Services, or combination of the equivalent education and/or a minimum of two years of work experience with young adults.
2.Minimum 2 years of experience, preferably in residential, housing, outreach or shelter setting.
3.Knowledge of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on family violence, child welfare, impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach; knowledge of an Indigenouslanguage(s) will be considered an asset.
4.Knowledge of Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach tools.
5.Knowledge of adolescent developmental theory and issues related to homeless youth and young adults.
6.Proven ability to deal effectively with crisis situations and to identify, assess, and intervene with youth incrisis.
7.Knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and needs of the youth community.
8.Knowledge and understanding of flexible, diverse, traditional and nontraditional support, advocacy andintervention processes.
9.Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport; effective verbal/listening communication skills.
10.Proficiency in Microsoft Office including database applications.
11.Excellent case / file management skills, stress and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines.
12.Group facilitation, team building and decision-making skills; ability to take initiative.
13.Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and shift work.
14.Valid First Aid / CPR Certificate and Safe Food Handling certification is an asset.
15.A clear Vulnerable Sector Clearance Check is a condition of employment.
16.Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; will require a valid Drivers Abstract.

Salary: $55,000 / annum
