Job Description

The YMCA Southwestern New Brunswick is working hard to address the critical issues facing the region; the health crisis, population decline, youth outmigration and child poverty. At the Y, we are striving to build a diverse and inclusive community where each person is valued for the unique perspectives and contributions they bring.

The Y offers a diverse set of programs at 19 locations in the city and surrounding municipalities. We are a community of 450 employees and 500 volunteers. If you don’t have a Y story yet – now is your opportunity to get involved. We invite you to come to see what the power of belonging can do for you, your career and your community.

The Opportunity

As a Youth Leader at the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick, you will help shape a welcoming and inclusive space for young people in our community. You will work alongside dedicated staff and volunteers to plan and deliver fun and engaging programs that promote physical, mental, and social well-being. With your energy and commitment, you will be a role model and mentor, guiding youth to develop confidence, skills, and a sense of belonging. This casual role offers evening shifts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and on Saturday or Sunday from 7:30 am – 4:00pm at the Field House, with opportunities to pick up additional shifts at the Regional Y. You will report directly to the Manager, Irving Oil Field House, joining a dynamic team dedicated to supporting youth and fostering community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and organize a variety of sports, recreational, and educational programs for youth, ensuring everyone feels included.
  • Plan the evening activities for game night, youth zone and other programs as needed.
  • Foster a positive, safe, and supportive environment for youth and families during activities.
  • Work closely with participants to encourage involvement and growth, while promoting team spirit and cooperation.
  • Maintain program equipment, set up and supervise activities, and ensure the space is welcoming and safe.
  • Handle administrative duties like sign-in/sign-out processes and communicate facility guidelines.
  • Serve as a positive role model, promoting YMCA values and leading by example in all interactions.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with youth in child care, afterschool, or recreational programs is an asset.
  • Strong team player with great organizational and communication skills.
  • Able to connect with youth, inspire their participation, and adapt to their diverse needs.
  • Clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Social Development clearance required.

What We Offer

  • YMCA membership
  • In-house training and professional development opportunities
  • Uniform and uniform allowance
  • Personal “Y Day”
  • Competitive compensation package, including benefits and pension plan
  • Opportunities for career growth
  • Opportunities for cross-training across department
  • Paid job related certifications (i.e. First aid/CPR)

We ask qualified applicants to submit their cover letter and resume. The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick appreciates the interest of all applicants; however, only those selected for interviews will be contacted.
