Position Title: Supervisor, Shelter Flow
Department: Shelter Flow
Reports To: Manager, Shelter Flow
Classification: Union
Pay Unit: $18.40/hr – $24.70/hr (Year 10) Union Wage Scale
Hours: 40 hours/week; Tuesday to Friday 10am-6pm and Saturday 9am-5pm.
Days/times of shift could vary/change
Start: ASAP

Position Summary:
The Shelter Flow Supervisor oversees day to day work for the Department. The Shelter Flow Supervisor reviews the pertinent reports to organize the daily work of the Animal Advisors. The Supervisor’s priorities include promoting excellent customer service; overseeing intake of animals to the shelter regarding space availability/limitations; assuring that lost and found reports are followed up in a timely manner; and working with rescues for options for those animals that have limited/no options at this shelter. The Shelter Flow Supervisor mentors, coaches and helps to develop staff within the Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
· Organize and delegate daily work of the Shelter Flow/Phone Receptionist
· Review the work for completion and accuracy and provide feedback for revision as needed:
o Review accuracy of daily departmental transactions
o Ensure Counter Point customer report entries are complete and accurate
o Check Incoming & Outgoing Detail Reports for accurate data entry
o Review Check Dailies to ensure timely follow-up
o Monitor “waiting lists” and “relinquish appointments to ensure steady and appropriate intake of animals for optimum flow for shelter space
o Monitor surrender and other forms for accuracy and completion
· Provide assistance to other Departments as needed for intake of animals and assists Foster Care Department as needed
· Create a friendly and professional environment to enhance courteous service; ensure clean, attractive, and organized work areas
· Assist Manager Shelter Flow with completion of performance reviews
· Coach and develop staff, providing clear and constructive feedback and additional training as needed to enhance each individual’s performance
· Attend to elevated calls and/or clients
· Make decisions regarding extraordinary requests or situations with the public
· Answer phone calls and provide information as needed
· Educate the public on pet related issues
· Maintain a contact list for Rescues.
· Monitor surrenders requests and wait lists.
· Ensure optimal customer service for all clients. Empathy, trauma informed, and harm reduction lenses are key in optimal customer service for the Animal Advisors.
· All other reasonable duties assigned by Manager Shelter Flow
· Be guided by and guide by empathy and being trauma informed with a harm reduction lens for true community service.
Other duties that arise in the course of intake and shelter flow operations of the team or assigned by the Manager Shelter Flow.
Qualifications & Experience:
The following are mandatory qualifications and experience for this role:
Specific to the job level
- High School Diploma or equivalent,
- More than 12 months and less than or including 2 years’ experience required,
- Prior Supervisory experience, or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
The following qualifications and experience are desired and would be considered assets:
· Degree in animal welfare or related field.
· Experience working in a non-profit environment.
Knowledge & Skills:

- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy when completing all tasks
- Able to handle the emotional stress of dealing with the many animals relinquished to the shelter
- Ability to handle sometimes large, unruly dogs; fractious cats; a variety of wildlife.

- Basic knowledge of animal care, safety, & health issues
