Provincial Child Care Advisor, Full-time (35 hours/week)
The BC Aboriginal Child Care Society (BCACCS) is a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care (IELCC) that is committed to ensuring every Indigenous child in BC has access to spiritually enriching, culturally based, high quality early learning and childcare services.
BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE JOB
The Advisor plays a vital role in providing culturally specific community outreach, support, and training to the Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care (IELCC) Sector in British Columbia. They are responsible for delivering professional development opportunities to support IELCC programs throughout the province in a culturally responsive manner. The Advisor also takes an active role in supporting the planning and delivery of the annual provincial conferences. The Advisor collaborates with various stakeholders, including community leaders, Elders, parents, advocates, caregivers, Child Care Resource and Referral programs and government, to support and advance the IELCC sector.
The Provincial Child Care Advisor collaborates with all members of the ACCRR team and contributes to the overall functioning of the ACCRR program as well as supporting all teams and projects of BCACCS. They report to the ACCRR Co- Managers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Provincial Child Care Advisor position is responsible for the following key functions.
- Supports communities and IELCC programs to receive quality culturally responsive training and education opportunities.
- Provides input in the creation and delivery of all training and education content and materials.
- Builds knowledge of IELCC programs and services throughout the province.
- Promote the ACCRR and Resource Library and support outreach efforts.
- Provides support to the ACCRR/BCACCS projects that sustains the I/ELCC sector.
- Collaborate with BCACCS staff to provide integrated regional delivery of BCACCS programs and services.
- Keep abreast of trends and developments in the IELCC/ELCC sector.
- Engage in training, professional development, and ongoing skill development, including in tools such as Canva, Asana, and the Microsoft suite.
- Keep detailed records of all activities and participates in reporting and evaluation.
- Maintains the Executive Director’s electronic and paper filing systems to ensure an accurate and orderly record to meet legal obligations and for easy retrieval of all documents.
- Coordinates with IT for technical support and regular data backups
- In the Executive Director’s absence, ensures that requests for action or information are relayed to the appropriate team member, using initiative and judgment on matters requiring attention and decisions
Requirements
- A strong understanding of and respect for Indigenous cultures, traditions, and values, focusing on BC Indigenous communities.
- Degree or degree level training in Early Childhood Care and Education, Child & Youth Care, or an Early Childhood Education diploma. Special Needs or Infant Toddler Educator certification an asset.
- Minimum of five years’ work experience in early years settings.
- Knowledge of childcare policies, licensing regulations, and best practices in British Columbia.
- Strong experience in curriculum development and design.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent professional communication skills (written, oral and presentation).
- Strong group facilitation skills and/or community development experience.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including database management, research tools, meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams), Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), and Canva.
- Ability to manage a high level of administrative tasks within a virtual office environment.
- Ability to work in a culturally safe manner/trauma informed practice.
- Ability to work weekends and evenings occasionally when requested.
- Willing to work from home office, travel to community throughout the province and visit the provincial office in West Vancouver when requested.
Aboriginal ancestry preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience working with Aboriginal and First Nations communities and be sensitive to the cultural realities of Indigenous people in British Columbia.

Conditions:
- Must have valid driver's license and operational vehicle. Willingness and ability to travel throughout the province year-round.
- Must hold a current ECE Certificate to practice.
- Must follow the BCACCS Code of Conduct, agree to a criminal record check and adhere to BCACCS Health and Safety Policy.
