Optometric Assistant or Optician
Location: Shelburne, ON
Type: Part-Time/Full-Time
Pay: From $17.50/hour
Are you someone who enjoys helping people see, look and feel spectacular? Do you happen to know your way around an optical gallery? If you’ve worked in an optometry clinic or optical before and love the idea of helping patients choose the right eyewear, we’d love to meet you.
We’re a modern, full-scope optometry clinic in the growing town of Shelburne, with an in-house Dry Eye Spa and a strong focus on personalized care. We are looking for an Optometric Assistant or Optician with hands-on experience in the field — especially someone who’s confident in dispensing and loves guiding patients through the process of choosing glasses they’ll love.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your main focus will be working in our optical gallery, helping patients choose frames, recommending lenses, placing orders, and adjusting and repairing eyewear. But like any clinic, we work as a team — so you’ll also help out at the front desk, assist with pre-testing, support the optometrists, and jump in wherever needed to keep the day running smoothly.
What We’re Looking For
- While we truly appreciate the interest, we are not accepting applications for Optician co-op positions at this time.
- You must have at least 1 year of previous experience working in an optometry clinic or optical store — this isn’t an entry-level role.
- You must be able to work Saturdays.
- You’re confident in dispensing and optical sales, and you genuinely enjoy helping people find the right eyewear.
- You’re friendly, reliable, and comfortable working with a close-knit team.
- You can juggle tasks, stay organized, and keep things moving without needing to be micromanaged.
- You’re comfortable with technology (we use tools like Google Drive, Slack, Optosys, Canva and Ring Central).
Your Day-to-Day Tasks Include
- Helping patients select frames and lenses that suit their needs and style.
- Placing and tracking optical orders, adjusting and repairing glasses.
- Greeting patients, answering phones, scheduling appointments and direct billing.
- Running pre-testing ( auto-refraction, OCT, visual fields, etc.).
- Assisting with dry eye assessments and treatments.
- Teaching patients how to use contact lenses.
- Keeping the clinic clean, organized, and welcoming.
What It’s Like Working Here
We’re a small, dedicated team that takes pride in making our patients feel cared for. We believe in treating people with respect, supporting each other, and having fun along the way. You’ll have a chance to grow your skills and contribute to a clinic that’s truly patient-focused.
We’re committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for both patients and staff. While experience in the field is a must for this position, we value the unique perspectives and backgrounds that each team member brings to the table. Everyone deserves to feel respected, safe and supported and that’s exactly what we aim for here.
Perks & Extras
- Vision care and staff discounts on products and aesthetic services.
- Team events and a supportive work culture.
- Free on-site parking.
- A growing practice with room for long term career development.

If you’re ready to bring your optical experience to a clinic where your skills will be appreciated and your days will be full of variety, we’d love to hear from you.
