Located in the picturesque town of St. Jacobs, Heidelberg Foods Ltd. specializes in premium quality, great tasting, shelf stable meat products and meat snacks. We operate out of a state-of-the-art BRC Global Standard certified, federally registered, CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) regulated meat processing facility with additional facilities available in the Kitchener/Waterloo region to support expansion in Canada and internationally.
Heidelberg Foods Ltd. has an opening in its Ready-To-Eat (RTE) production area for a Machine Operator at its St. Jacobs location.
ROLE:
The RTE Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of packaging equipment within the Ready-to-Eat (RTE) department. This position plays a key role in ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, and maintaining production efficiency.
Responsibilities include:
- Operate and monitor packaging equipment, including Repak machines, x-ray systems, case tapers, and scales.
- Complete pre-operational checks, sanitation verification, and equipment readiness.
- Review packaging orders and prepare materials as required for each run.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including counts, lot numbers, and product descriptions.
- Monitor product quality, packaging integrity, and labeling accuracy.
- Assist with changeovers, adjustments, and troubleshooting to maintain efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with the RTE Supervisor, Lead Hand, and other departments (QA, Maintenance, Warehouse, Raw, Office).
- Promote safe work practices and follow all HACCP, GMP, CFIA, and BRC requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring safety and efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Minimum of 2 year's experience in the food or meat industry. Preferably with a form-fill-seal thermoforming systems (Repak), Auto labelers, foreign material detection systems (x-ray & metal detection), and scaling systems (e.g. Bizerba).
- Strong knowledge of food safety and quality programs (HACCP, GMP, CFIA, BRC).
- Mechanical aptitude with ability to operate and troubleshoot packaging equipment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain focus and accuracy in a fast-paced production environment.
- Commitment to workplace safety and safe equipment operation.
- Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Flexibility to assist with various production tasks and shifts when required.
Position is hourly: 40 - 44 hours per week
Day Shift at an hourly rate of $$23.00 - $25.00 (depending upon experience) **Plus Benefits after three-month probationary period.**.
Typical Hours: Monday to Friday 6:30am – 4:00pm or 7:00am – 4:30pm (Shift start times may vary depending upon production schedules.)
Production environment temperature is 4 degrees Celsius or lower. Need to dress appropriately. Freezer jackets are supplied.
