About the Division:

The Inspectorate of Policing (IoP) is a newly created division in the Ministry of the Solicitor General that was established to meet the legislative mandate of the Inspector General of Policing, as required under the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA).

The IoP monitors, advises, conducts inspections, and investigates complaints concerning the delivery of policing and compliance with the CSPA and its regulations, and investigates complaints related to board member misconduct.

Deliver on Business Goals and Priorities

Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the team towards the achievement of their business goals. As the Manager, Policing Inspectorate – Policing Inspections, you will:
  • Lead Provincial Oversight Programs: Oversee the delivery of province-wide inspection, investigation, compliance, enforcement, and approvals programs to ensure public safety and adherence to legislation and standards.
  • Drive Policy and Program Innovation: Evaluate and enhance policies and programs to align with evolving best practices in public safety, legislative requirements, and ministry priorities.
  • Engage Stakeholders and Resolve Issues: Build strong relationships with internal and external partners, provide expert guidance, and manage complex compliance and enforcement issues.
  • Oversee Compliance Inspections: Lead province-wide inspections, compliance, and enforcement programs that ensure policing services across Ontario meet the highest standards of integrity and effectiveness.
  • Manage Strategic Projects and Resources: Direct high-impact projects, manage budgets and resources, and ensure timely delivery of program objectives.
  • Lead and Develop High-Performing Teams: Foster an inclusive, values-based work environment, support staff development, and oversee recruitment, training, and performance management.

What you bring to the team


Leadership and Team Management

  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing, inclusive teams in a regulatory or public safety environment.
  • Experience in building and managing inspection units, including recruitment, training, and performance oversight of inspectors.
  • Skilled in setting strategic direction, managing change, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.


Program and Policy Expertise

  • Deep understanding of public policy, regulatory frameworks, and legislative compliance, particularly in the context of policing or public safety.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing inspection plans, thematic reviews, and complaint response protocols.
  • Ability to translate complex policy into operational programs and ensure alignment with ministry and government priorities.


Audit, Inspection, and Planning Acumen

  • Strong background in developing audit programs, audit methodologies, inspection frameworks, and risk-based planning.
  • Skilled in leading the development of inspection strategies, tools, and performance metrics to ensure effective oversight and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in managing the full lifecycle of inspections—from planning and execution to reporting and follow-up.


Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders, including other ministries, law enforcement agencies, and the public.
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive complaints and issues with discretion and professionalism.
  • Skilled in promoting transparency, building trust, and representing the ministry on intergovernmental and sectoral committees.
