The City of Pitt Meadows is hiring a Community Policing Coordinator to promote and oversee the delivery of volunteer-based crime prevention and community policing programs. This is an exciting opportunity to join our new RCMP detachment and help build something great from the ground up.
Reporting to the Manager of RCMP Support Services, this position develops and implements various aspects of our community policing and crime prevention programs (i.e., Block Watch, Citizens On Patrol, Safe Place, Crime Free Multi-Housing, and Crime Watch) to meet the needs of our community. This includes recruiting, training, and overseeing a large number of volunteers; liaising with external contacts and agencies; reviewing data to identify crime trends; organizing and participating in volunteer workshops and special events; and preparing communication materials and newsletters. Considerable independent judgement is required, with complex matters being referred to a superior who also reviews work for conformance and effectiveness. This is not just a job – it’s a legacy. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm with a 35-hour workweek. However, this position may be required to work evenings and weekends based on operational needs or planned events. This position is anticipated to start in November/December 2025.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses related to the work, including volunteer management, plus considerable related experience, preferably in a police environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Considerable knowledge of community policing and crime prevention objectives, programs, and services and the procedures used in the work.
- Working knowledge of the needs of community groups, industries, and individuals related to the work, as well as the resources available through community agencies.
- Considerable knowledge of the practices used in recruiting, training, motivating, and leading volunteers.
- Ability to develop, implement, coordinate, and adapt crime prevention programs while monitoring case files and crisis intervention services as required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Security Clearance.
- Please note, the ability to obtain and maintain RCMP Security Clearance is required by the start date, and is a condition of employment. If you have an active clearance, please indicate your HRMIS number on your application.
