HR Generalist

Hive Retail Solutions is a fast-growing, nimble sales and merchandising agency specializing in in-store execution across Canada. Our team of retail field reps bring brands to life on the shelf through compliance, merchandising, and performance-driven programs. With a close-knit team of under 50 people, we’re passionate about doing great work with great people, and we’re looking for a hands-on HR Generalist to support our growing team.
Position Summary
The HR Generalist will own the day-to-day human resources function across our organization, from recruitment and onboarding to employee relations, compliance, and basic payroll coordination as needed. This is a strategic and tactical role perfect for someone who thrives in a people-first, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities Recruitment & Onboarding
- Manage end-to-end recruitment for field and head office roles
- Create job descriptions, post to job boards, screen candidates, schedule interviews
- Own onboarding and offboarding processes, including paperwork, orientation, and systems access
- Maintain our candidate pipeline and referral program
Employee Relations & HR Support
- Be the go-to resource for employee questions, concerns, and policies
- Support field supervisors with documentation and performance conversations
- Assist with investigations or conflict resolution as needed
- Maintain an open-door culture of trust and communication
HR Operations & Compliance
- Maintain employee records and contracts (digital HRIS or manual)
- Ensure compliance with employment standards and health & safety regulations
- Coordinate policy updates and ensure proper distribution and acknowledgment
- Track training completion and field compliance (e.g., Smart Serve, Health and Safety, onboarding)
People Programs & Culture
- Support employee engagement efforts including newsletters, recognition programs, and surveys
- Assist in organizing team virtual events, meetings, trade shows, and onboarding welcome kits
- Track time-off requests, birthdays, anniversaries, and field communications
Payroll Support (Light)
- Liaise with payroll provider to ensure accuracy of time tracking and staff records
- Maintain basic reporting for hours worked, wage changes, and vacation time as requested on expenses
(Note: This is not a payroll processing role but includes light coordination)
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years’ experience in an HR Generalist or HR Coordinator role
- Strong knowledge of employment standards (preferably across multiple provinces)
- Comfortable working independently in a small team and wearing multiple hats
- Excellent communication, organization, and discretion
- Experience in a field-based workforce, merchandising, or retail is a major asset
- Tech-savvy and familiar with Google Workspace, HRIS, or scheduling tools
