About the workplace
This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. Periodically and when scheduled by the Board, you’ll be required to provide in-person governance support for meetings, activities, and/or events.
As a Governance Officer, you’ll report to the Office of the CEO, ensuring that statutory and regulatory obligations will be successfully met and the capacity of the Board of Directors will be optimized enabling each Board to achieve its mandate and vision.
A typical day would involve:
- Coordinate and execute activities of the Board and governance projects for the Vancity Group of Companies (such as the Board of Directors Election, Annual General Meeting, Board Meetings, and Board Committee meetings) to enable the achievement of the Board's vision and governance compliance
- Provide technical advice to the Board, Executives and various areas of the business regarding policy and process improvements, and regulatory and statutory requirements in order to mitigate risk and achieve an effective and compliant governance structure and operation which supports the Board’s vision
- Prepare and maintain governance records and execute the statutory and regulatory filings (including but not limited to, Corporate Registry, BCFSA and OSFI) to achieve accurate reporting
- Conduct research and provide recommendations to enable the improvement and/or optimization of governance processes
You have:
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Law or a related field
- Knowledge of corporate governance norms, standards, and innovations
- Experience working in governance, compliance, or policy (ideally in a regulated environment), or experience in a related field supplemented with specific governance experience
- A calm demeanor under pressure and able to work with high profile/ senior individuals
- Ability to deal with confidential matters with great discretion
- Ability to prioritize work and meet competing deadlines
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience planning and coordinating corporate events and meetings
You are:
- Analytical – You’re able to review information, detect anomalies, and investigate and resolve discrepancies. You can assess internal processes and identify opportunities for improvement, and to manage revenue and expenses.
- A problem solver - You have the problem solving and decision making skills to apply specific standards and guidelines to the work; escalating unresolved issues to senior staff
- A strong communicator – You’re able to act as a resource for the specialized area, providing specialized advice, guidance, explanations, and related support; and also to participate development of program content.

The salary range for the role is $64,000 to 96,500. The upper half of the salary range is typically reserved for individuals who have demonstrated consistent strong performance in the role and possess a high level of job knowledge and skill.
Base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
