Job Summary
The Family Counselling Centre is an established community-based agency providing counselling services to Sarnia and Lambton area since 1955. We are seeking an enthusiastic team player to work as a Family Court Support Worker in a part-time position.
We are seeking an independent, motivated, organized professional to provide direct services and support to domestic violence victims involved in the family court process in Sarnia. This position will work collaboratively with the existing services for victims of domestic violence to ensure victims have access to the support they need at every stage of the court process. This service must facilitate the victim's understanding of, and passage through, the family court system.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with the criminal court (VWAP), and other family court-based services and referral sources to promote seamless delivery of information, education, and support.
- Provide information to clients about the family court process.
- Assist clients to record the history of abuse in court documentation.
- Assist with safety planning and risk assessments.
- Assist the client through the legal aid process.
- Support the client in following through with the lawyer's requests.
- Refer client to specialized services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Organized and energetic professional with demonstrated experience in providing services to individuals who have been subjected to abuse.
- Understanding of and commitment to a feminist, gender based, intersectional analysis of woman is essential.
- Knowledge of family law process and issues faced by woman abuse survivors within the family law system.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, sound judgement, commitment to address questions and concerns in a timely manner.
- Ability to structure time, independently set work priorities, and meet program expectations.
- Experienced in crisis intervention and empowering clients to achieve goals.
- Commitment to growth and self reflection with support from supervisor and team.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Ability to work varied/flexible hours when required.
- Extensive knowledge of and know contacts in the Sarnia Lambton community.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Always exerts a professional and respectful etiquette.
Qualifications
- 3 – 5 years relevant experience working with victims of violence and/or family court.
- BA/BSW with an emphasis in social sciences, women’s studies or related/equivalent education with professional case management training.
