Position Summary:
South Country Co-op is hiring a motivated and experienced Temporary-Full Time Assistant Meat Manager to join our team at 13th Ave Food Store in Medicine Hat, AB. If you’re passionate about providing exceptional customer experiences & leadership, we’d love to hear from you!
Reporting to the Meat Manager, this position plays a key role in supporting the overall operation of the Meat Department. The Assistant Meat Manager is responsible for helping lead daily operations, managing sales and gross margins, ensuring department standards are met, overseeing ordering and inventory control, and assisting with merchandising and production. This role also provides exceptional customer service and supports a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing all aspects of the Meat Department, including sales, gross margin, expenses, and inventory
- Support the Meat Manager in planning and executing production schedules and merchandising plans
- Maintain high standards for product quality, freshness, and presentation
- Provide exceptional customer service and handle inquiries or concerns in a professional manner
- Assist in ordering, receiving, and inventory management
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety throughout the department
Supervise and support team members, providing coaching, training, and performance feedback
Perform meat cutting duties as needed to support department operations
- Practice good housekeeping and sanitation practices in work areas, coolers, and freezers
- Educate customers on the benefits of membership in South Country Co-op
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and completed Grade 9
- Minimum of 1–2 years of progressive supervisory or management experience in retail environment
- Minimum of 1 year of meat cutting experience
- Meat Cutter certificate from a recognized institution
- Ability to adapt to new technology and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a diverse team
- Strong customer service, communication, and teamwork skills
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and work ethic
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced and changing environment
Work Schedule:
This position requires full availability, including days, evenings, and weekends.
