ADDICTIONS WELLNESS ADVISOR

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority is a dynamic and evolving healthcare agency that provides health program support to its four northern partners - Prince Albert Grand Council, Meadow Lake Tribal Council, Lac La Ronge Indian Band, and Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation.
POSITION MANDATE
The Addictions Wellness Advisor will assist NITHA second-level service providers in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies for the Substance Use and Addiction program. In consultation with the four NITHA partners, develop a comprehensive framework including a model of service delivery encompassing substance use and addiction prevention, assessment, education, intervention, treatment, and aftercare. Provide a thorough community assessment that includes guiding best practice, counselling, and treatment planning for individuals struggling with substance use disorders. The role supports community clients in achieving recovery goals through evidence-based interventions, education, and support services. The Addictions Wellness Advisor collaborates with the NITHA Mental Wellness Advisor and multidisciplinary teams at second-level communities to ensure holistic care and promote harm reduction strategies, relapse prevention, and long-term sobriety.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Our ideal candidate will be an innovative professional with the following skills, knowledge, and abilities:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related field from a recognized university or a relevant field. A Master’s degree will be an asset.
- Certification or licensure in Addictions Counselling (i.e., CADC, CACCF, CCAC, ACHP or equivalent)
- Minimum of 3 years of combined experience that reflects work in the areas of substance use and addiction.
- Certification in ASIST or CISM, or related training, and/or be willing to become certified.
- Familiarity with evidence-based treatment modalities such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and 12-Step Facilitation.
- Ability to apply knowledge of best practices related to models of care, research, and trends in the field of substance use and addictions.
- Knowledge of harm reduction, relapse prevention, and trauma-informed care approaches.
- Maintains positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, exercising diplomacy, judgement and tact.
- Provide evidence of previous proposal/policy/framework development.
- Knowledge of community development.
- Maintains a high degree of confidentiality and cultural sensitivity.
- Experience working with First Nations people and organizations, and working with diverse populations, is an asset.
- Advanced computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Professional, desktop publishing, and Windows.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license as travel is required.
