Oxford House Foundation of Canada provides safe, affordable, and supportive sober living environments for individuals recovering from addiction. Our Pre-Treatment Housing Program bridges the critical gap between detox and the commencement of formal addiction treatment, offering a structured and peer-supported environment for up to six weeks. We are dedicated to empowering residents to take responsibility for their recovery, develop essential life skills, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

Position Summary:

The Addiction Counsellor for the Men's Pre-Treatment Program plays a crucial role in providing direct clinical support, guidance, and education to male residents awaiting formal addiction treatment. This individual is responsible for conducting assessments, developing individualized recovery plans, facilitating therapeutic interventions, and collaborating with residents to prepare them for their next stage of recovery. A key aspect of this role involves meticulous documentation and reporting, adhering to all provincial and organizational standards, including AHS reporting, My Recovery Plan, Accreditation Standards, and utilizing the FYI Database.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Assessment & Intervention:

* Conduct comprehensive intake assessments, including substance use history, mental health screening, social determinants of health, and readiness for change.

* Develop and implement individualized "My Recovery Plans" (MRPs) in collaboration with residents, setting measurable goals and identifying appropriate interventions.

* Provide individual and group counselling sessions utilizing evidence-based practices (e.g., CBT, DBT principles, Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed approaches).

* Facilitate psycho-educational groups on topics such as relapse prevention, coping skills, healthy relationships, grief and loss, and life skills.

* Monitor residents' progress, provide ongoing support, and adjust treatment plans as needed.

* Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support when required.

* Support residents in identifying and addressing barriers to treatment engagement and recovery.

AHS Reporting & Compliance:

* Accurately collect, record, and submit all required clinical data and reports to Alberta Health Services (AHS) as per established guidelines.

* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of AHS reporting standards and ensure clinical documentation and practices comply with provincial regulations.

* Prepare and submit reports related to client assessments, treatment plans, progress, and outcomes.

My Recovery Plan (MRP) Management:

* Utilize the My Recovery Plan platform for all required client information, including comprehensive assessments (e.g., REC-CAP at intake, midpoint, and discharge) and outcomes data.

* Ensure accurate, timely, and thorough documentation within the MRP system, supporting seamless transition and care coordination with external treatment providers.

* Generate reports from MRP to inform clinical practice and facilitate internal and external reporting requirements.

* Collaborate with residents to track their individualized recovery goals and tasks within MRP.

Accreditation Standards & Quality Improvement:

* Actively participate in and contribute to the organization's adherence to relevant accreditation standards (e.g., Accreditation Canada, CARF) in all clinical practices.

* Maintain thorough, organized, and compliant clinical documentation and records to support accreditation reviews.

* Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical best practices and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives within the program.

* Ensure all counselling practices align with ethical guidelines and patient safety principles.

FYI Database Expertise:

* Demonstrate strong proficiency and expertise in utilizing the FYI Database for all client management, clinical record-keeping, scheduling, and program data.

* Ensure accurate and efficient data entry, tracking, and retrieval of client information within FYI Database.

* Generate various reports and data summaries from FYI Database as required for internal analysis and external reporting.

* Troubleshoot basic FYI Database issues and liaise with technical support when necessary.

Collaboration & Referrals:

* Work collaboratively with Oxford House staff, external treatment centers, detox facilities, and community resources to ensure integrated care and seamless client transitions.

* Facilitate appropriate referrals to formal addiction treatment programs, mental health services, medical care, and other essential community supports.

* Participate in case conferences and team meetings to discuss client progress and coordinate care.

Qualifications:

* Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Addictions Counselling, or a related clinical human services field.

* Professional Registration/Certification: Must be registered and in good standing with a relevant professional body in Alberta (e.g., ACSW, College of Alberta Psychologists, CCPA, or equivalent).

Experience:

* Minimum of 2-3 years of direct clinical counselling experience with individuals experiencing substance use disorders, preferably in a residential or pre-treatment setting.

* Demonstrated experience with clinical documentation, data management, and reporting in a healthcare or social services context.

* Proven experience utilizing electronic medical records (EMR) or client management systems, with specific expertise in FYI Database highly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

* Comprehensive understanding of addiction as a disease, various models of recovery, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions.

* In-depth knowledge of AHS reporting requirements for addiction treatment programs is essential.

* Proficiency in My Recovery Plan (MRP) clinical assessment, data entry, and reporting.

* Strong familiarity with accreditation standards relevant to addiction treatment facilities (CARF) and their application to clinical practice.

* Excellent assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.

* Strong individual and group facilitation skills.

* Exceptional communication (written and verbal), active listening, and interpersonal skills.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the FYI Database system.

* Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.

* Commitment to cultural humility and anti-oppressive practice.

Personal Attributes:

* Empathetic, compassionate, and non-judgmental approach to individuals in recovery.

* Strong ethical conduct and commitment to professional boundaries and confidentiality.

* Ability to maintain composure and effectiveness in challenging situations.

* Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented.

* Commitment to continuous professional development.

Working Conditions:

* This position primarily operates within residential pre-treatment homes.

* May require some evening or weekend work to facilitate or address urgent client needs.

* Requires valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.

* Requires a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
