The Abilities Management Advisor is responsible for comprehensive case management of disability claims arising from both occupational and non-occupational injury or illness. Working closely with employees, managers, healthcare providers, and insurers, the AMA facilitates recovery and return-to-work plans aligned with medical advice and job requirements. This includes WCB claim management, sick bank and bridging adjudication, fitness-for-work evaluations, and short/long-term disability case coordination. You will facilitate timely and supportive return-to-work planning in collaboration with internal teams and external providers; review incident reports, assess lost-time claims, and communicate with WCB and non-occupational insurance providers; manage disability cases and track progress to identify barriers and maintain alignment with organizational and legislative policies; adjudicate sick leave and facilitate short- and long-term disability plans; lead or participate in return-to-work meetings with employees, managers, and union partners; analyze medical documentation, communicate restrictions, and ensure clear documentation of return-to-work plans; respond to inquiries, escalate complex cases, and support fitness-for-duty and accommodation processes; coordinate referrals for Substance Abuse Evaluations (SAEs), drug testing, and EFAP resources where needed; maintain accurate and confidential records and input case data into electronic systems; provide case status updates to the Team Lead and other stakeholders. This is a non-unionized position. Occasional travel between Covenant Health sites may be required. Please note: Must be able to travel between various sites/locations; and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in Disability Management, Occupational Health, Rehabilitation, Human Resources, or related field. Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in disability case management, preferably in a unionized and/or healthcare setting. Certification in NIDMAR, CSPDM, or similar disability management credential considered an asset. Demonstrated understanding of WCB legislation, Human Rights legislation, and return-to-work best practices. Strong leadership, mentorship, and performance management abilities. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and electronic medical record systems. Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License; ability to travel to Covenant Health sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a healthcare environment. Experience using electronic recordkeeping systems. Participation in complex accommodation cases involving addiction, mental health, or permanent medical restrictions.
