Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented clinical trials lab/clinic assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting clinical operations by ensuring the smooth functioning of processing of lab samples with ship out to a central laboratory, while maintaining an organized and clean work space.
Responsibilities
- After our Nurse has collected the blood ,urine and biopsy samples, process them following a lab manual by centrifuging them at specific speeds, and shipping them to a central lab. This role will ensure all shipments going out have proper paperwork (shipping documents) completed and that the correct courier has been scheduled for pick up.
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring they are clean and well-stocked.
- Assist in laboratory tasks, including specimen handling and processing.
- Labeling sample collection vials with Participant numbers, before they arrive for their clinic visit.
- Greeting couriers who deliver shipments to our office, signing for the delivery, and putting the boxes away while confirming the shipping contents list matches the actual shipment contents .
- Filing of patient lab results, in their chart weekly.
- Filing of clinical trial regulatory documentation , weekly.
- Support the clinical team in administrative tasks to enhance workflow efficiency.
- Taking out cardboard boxes to recycle bin outdoors, weekly.
Requirements
- Experience working in a laboratory or hospital environment is preferred, but is not necessarily required.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Critical thinking is required, along with following instructions closely until you learn the tasks at hand. Once you learn it, it becomes second nature.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in healthcare support roles are advantageous, lab experience preferred but all candidates with a willingness to learn new skills are welcome to apply. Our current lab assistant started with us 7 years ago without any experience, and her role has advanced leaving this position open again.
- Pharmacy assistant experience may also be considered.

Our clinic is located in Tawa Medical Center in Millwoods. Parking is rather expensive as we are so close to the Grey Nuns Hospital, so we encourage those applicants who live close by who may choose to walk or take the LRT to get to work. The LRT comes directly to our building so it is a good option. Free parking is available within a few blocks from our clinic, but not immediately close by so please keep this in mind for winter months, you may have a short walk to our office.
This position is Monday-Thursday, 9:00am 3:00 pm (24 hrs a week). Increase in hours can occur in this role to be 9-4pm (28 hrs) if the right candidate wishes to take on more tasks later on, but this is not expected. At this time we are looking for someone to begin late August or first week in September. You can wear scrubs our business casual clothing, but no jeans/sneakers/sweatpants. Our office is not overly fancy but we are not "casual" either. We are a fun hearted team of 7 who need one more ! We would request that before officially offering you the position, you come in to shadow our lab assistant for an hour or so.
Hourly wage is between $18-$24 per hour, based on experience.
