Your core work will be with Global Youth, specifically programming for male-identified youth, with support to other youth programs as needed. We take a holistic, collaborative approach that supports youth and their families across departments.

This role focuses on engaging male-identified newcomer youth through interactive, youth-led programming that supports belonging, skill-building, and leadership. As part of a collaborative team, you’ll also contribute to other youth programs across the department as needed.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Youth Programs Specialist to deliver interactive, inclusive programming that supports newcomer youth. The ideal candidate brings experience in youth facilitation and program delivery, with a passion for helping young people build confidence, skills, and connection.

What You'll Do

Program Development and Delivery:

  • Plan and facilitate interactive program sessions, discussions, and hands-on activities that align with program objectives, including psychosocial support and relationship building
  • Engage youth to identify topics and learning outcomes for program sessions.
  • Use engaging, youth-centred facilitation techniques to create an inclusive and safe learning environment.
  • Adapt content to meet the needs of diverse youth participants and incorporate youth feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Foster relationships with community organizations and other external partners to support program delivery
  • Plan and execute logistics for program activities, including booking space, organizing off-site trips, coordinating guest speakers, managing registration, and procuring supplies
  • Document program activities to inform reporting to funders and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate on communications strategies and materials, including posters, newsletter write-ups, presentations, and social media

Youth Engagement & Support:

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive space where newcomer youth feel valued and supported.
  • Build professional, empathetic relationships with youth participants to learn about their unique strengths, interests, and needs, and support their active engagement with the program
  • Identify and address barriers to participation, ensuring equitable access to programming

What We Are Looking For

We value diverse lived experiences and know that great candidates may come from a range of educational or professional backgrounds.

Required:

  • BFOR: Must identify as a man or male-identified person
  • Lived experience related to migration, displacement, or community-based youth engagement
  • 2 years of experience facilitating or delivering youth or community programs

Preferred:

  • Post-secondary education in a community-related field, social services, education or social science discipline is an asset
  • Participatory facilitation in community settings to actively engage participants; program facilitation experience with youth is an asset

Competencies

  • Strong understanding of program planning, logistics, and engagement with a focus on community-driven development
  • Experience building effective working relationships with youth and their families, and community partners
  • Self-awareness – the ability to understand oneself and the impact that one’s perceptions and attitudes have on others
  • Inter-cultural competence – the ability to work well with diverse teams and participants
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender dynamics within immigrant communities; able to approach the work with cultural sensitivity while actively promoting inclusivity and respect for diverse gender identities and expressions
  • Strong organizational and collaborative problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills with a variety of audiences
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to changing program circumstances
