YOUTH IN TRANSITION WORKER
(Contract Position)
The N’Swakamok Indigenous Friendship Centre is accepting applications for the position of Youth In Transition Worker – (35 hours/week)
The Youth In Transition Program provides a variety of supports to youth aged 16-24 as they leave the care of CAS and transition into adult services. The Youth In Transition Worker works with youth to connect them with education, employment, housing, health services, legal services, and other supports in their communities. This skills and goals based program guides young people towards healthy independent living.
A key component of the program is the Aunties and Uncles Program, a one-to-one mentorship program where adult mentors commit to being mentors for youth who are in care (Child Welfare) or who have transitioned from care. The program is designed to give youth the life skills necessary to transition into adulthood.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Shall possess post-secondary education in Aboriginal studies, social work, child and youth work or combination of the equivalent and relevant education
- The candidate will have a minimum of three years of demonstrated and related work experience with youth
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Aboriginal culture and history, with particular emphasis n family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma, Aboriginal youth engagement and community outreach
- Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with child welfare agencies in Ontario
- Strong understanding of the Child and Family Services Act and Ontario Children’s Aid Societies, with particular emphasis of impact on Aboriginal families
- Must have valid Class ‘G’ driver’s licence and use of reliable vehicle for employment purposes and must be willing to travel
- Must provide a CPIC, which includes screening for vulnerable position
