Sailcone's Grizzly Bear Lodge is looking for a head chef to take over the current season starting in mid August until October 10th. This is a camp job with accommodation on site. The location of the lodge is on Minstrel Island, which is near Knight Inlet BC. This is a small, remote, family owned business. Maximum capacity is 8 clients and 4 staff. Grizzly Bear and Whale Watching are the main activities at the lodge. This position is starting immediately. The season is currently underway, but the owner and staff will assist the new hire and food supplies will be stocked up.
The cook is responsible for all meals, ordering and storing food, and overseeing general cleanliness. Our schedule is an early light breakfast, a packed lunch, appetisers and a hearty dinner with dessert. Our focus is quality, home style meals and local seafoods. As a small operation all staff is required to work as a team and help out where need. Food is brought in by boat and floatplane and as a result keeping up on stock and ordering is a major part of the position. Utilising food efficiently while delivering quality meals is essential.
Applicant must be able to bake homed breads and baked goods for dinners and breakfasts as well as doing the day to day cooking. On guest changeover days the chef helps out with room changes either assisting laundry or making beds if needed.
Basic lodging and all meals are included. Due to the seasonal nature, long shifts may be required. If you are looking for a challenging, but rewarding seasonal job in a beautiful remote setting, this could be for you. There may be occasional chances to view bears and whales as well as helping with the prawn and crab traps if desired.
Experience working in camp and/or lodge settings is an asset. Foodsafe is required and first aid is an asset. Marine skills are not required, but are also an asset. Shifts depart from Northern Vancouver Island.
