Position Summary:
The Warehouse Technician – Driver is responsible for preparing plates, pipes, fittings, and materials for external distribution and inhouse fabrication. Assist the Manufacturing and Machining Department as required. Driver is responsible for transporting various materials between destinations (pick up and deliveries).
This position is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle and is required to maintain safe work practices at our vendors and customers facilities and those controlled by them. As part of an essential service operating 365 days a year, the successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of reliability, responsiveness, and commitment to operational excellence. They will embody the corporate culture of "Service and Quality Second to None" and remain accessible for urgent projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Position Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of orders for shipping as required
- Unload materials from trucks
- Move items and place them in appropriate areas or bins using the following equipment: dollies, hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, and conveyers
- Complete daily logs and perform some basic preventative maintenance
- Prior to driving, perform vehicle inspection, check fluid levels, tire pressure, brakes, lights, and windshield wipers
- Report immediately to the supervisor any damage or mechanical issues with the vehicle
- Prior to a pick-up or delivery ensure safe work practices of the vendor or customer are followed. Those safe work practices will include site safety orientations and any other practices that are required to enter site.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive documents, adhere to operational and record keeping guidelines
- Lead by example and help to follow and enforce the company’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
- Attend the required training and focus on continued growth and development
- Practice public health orders
- Additional duties, authority and accountability as related to key responsibilities will be delegated to create a basis for contingency rewards and performance measures upon demonstrated competency
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- Warehouse experience preferably in the metal manufacturing environment
- Forklift Certificate or able to attain a certificate
- Proficient with computers, experience with MS Office applications
- Ability to learn and properly identify the products we purchase, fabricate, and sell; read Mill Test Reports (MTR)
- Enjoy taking a methodical approach to your work when keeping accurate records and operating equipment
- Appreciate the importance of policies and procedures for a safe and efficient work environment
- Willing to put in overtime hours when necessary to achieve perfection in inventory accuracy on emergency orders
- Positive attitude and flexibility to meet the changing work demands
- Successful at getting along well with fellow coworkers and communicating effectively to learn from mistakes
- Become accustomed to the corporate culture of service and quality
- Organized and extremely detail oriented, able to carry out tasks independently
- Good manual dexterity, physical strength, and stamina (able to lift and carry objects of 20kg)
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must hold a valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers Licence. A Class 5-GDL will be accepted only if Class 5 is achieved within 3 months of the start of employment with the Company. This position must be able to meet our insurers Driver Acceptability Criteria in order to continue to be employed.
