Cornell Animal Hospital, a companion animal practice in Guelph, ON, is growing and looking for a full time Veterinary Assistant/Recptionist to join our team! Guelph is a fabulous place to live and work. We have a beautiful and modern clinic. It includes 3 exam rooms plus 1 dedicated feline room, a spacious treatment area, a comfort room and separate surgery and dental suites with digital dental and x-ray. The ideal candidate will be friendly and compassionate, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work in a busy team environment. Duties:
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing medical care to animals
- Handle and restrain animals during examinations and procedures
- Prepare examination rooms and surgical suites for procedures
- Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments
- Administer medications as directed by veterinarians
- Perform basic laboratory tests, such as bloodwork and urinalysis
- Assist with radiographs and other diagnostic imaging procedures
- Monitor animals before, during, and after procedures
- Provide post-operative care and follow-up instructions to pet owners
- Maintain accurate records of patient treatments and procedures
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures and techniques
- Proficient in handling and restraining animals safely and effectively
- Familiarity with common veterinary medications and their administration routes
- Ability to perform basic laboratory tests accurately
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
