Job Summary
Sylvan teachers are responsible for creating a positive personal learning experience for students K - 12 in Reading, Writing and Math. Students are taught in a 3:1 student-teacher ratio using Sylvan program materials. We provide training in our programs. We design the programs, provide the materials and lesson plans and supply the students. All you have to do is teach! No planning, no reports, no parent meetings. Just working with keen students, eager to learn.
We are hiring several teachers for our Nanaimo location. In center work only!
Regular raises based on hours worked
Responsibilities:
- Develop rapport with students and establish a positive learning environment
- Maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm
- Manage 3 students to create a balanced and robust instructional session
- Evaluate and record progress of each student
- Use praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn
- Communicate specific student needs to Directors
- Attend staff meetings and completes ongoing training as needed
Education And Experience:
Teaching Credentials OR current post-secondary student (minimum 2nd year) with the intention of pursuing a degree in Education. Teaching and/or tutoring experience preferred
Schedule:
Minimum 1 year commitment of 2 - 4 shifts per week during the following instruction period.
- Monday - Friday 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm
- Saturday 9:30 am - 1:30 pm
Knowledge And Skills:
Have strong communication skills (written and verbal) Ability to multi-task and pay attention to detail, ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 16 per week
Schedule:
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
