Job Summary:
Freeway Truck Repair is seeking an experienced Truck Repair Shop Manager to lead our heavy-duty truck repair operations. This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership, mechanical expertise, and excellent customer service skills. You will oversee shop workflow, manage technicians, maintain inventory, and ensure high-quality repairs while optimizing shop efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Shop Operations & Workflow Management
- Oversee daily shop operations, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.
- Schedule and assign repair jobs to mechanics based on priority and skill level.
- Monitor repair progress, ensuring jobs are completed on time and within budget.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
2. Customer Service & Communication
- Serve as the main point of contact for customers, providing repair estimates and updates.
- Explain diagnostics, repair processes, and costs in a professional manner.
- Handle customer inquiries and resolve complaints promptly.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with fleet managers and truck owners.
3. Technical & Repair Supervision
- Oversee truck diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance to ensure quality and compliance with industry standards.
- Assist mechanics with troubleshooting complex mechanical and electronic issues.
- Review and approve completed repairs before vehicle release.
- Stay updated on advancements in heavy-duty truck repair technology.
4. Parts & Inventory Management
- Track and maintain inventory of commonly used parts and tools.
- Source and order parts from suppliers at the best possible prices.
- Manage vendor relationships and coordinate warranty claims or core returns.
- Ensure critical parts are available to minimize downtime.
5. Staff Supervision & Training
- Hire, train, and mentor mechanics, service advisors, and other shop staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and implement skill development programs.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations and best practices.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.
6. Financial & Administrative Management
- Develop and manage shop budgets, tracking revenue and expenses.
- Process invoices, payments, and payroll for shop employees.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and customer history.
- Identify and implement cost-saving strategies while maintaining service quality.
- Report to upper management with different reports associated in running the shop
7. Compliance & Safety Enforcement
- Ensure compliance with all workplace safety and environmental regulations.
- Implement and enforce shop safety protocols to prevent injuries and accidents.
- Keep the shop up to date with industry regulations and certifications.
Job Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in truck or heavy-duty equipment repair management.
- Strong background in diesel engine diagnostics, maintenance, and repair.
- Experience in fleet maintenance is an asset.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, mechanics, and suppliers.
- Proficiency in using shop management software and diagnostic tools.
- Knowledge of industry safety regulations and compliance standards.
