Big Country Equipment is a BC-based heavy equipment service and repair company that works with resource-based customers in the construction, forestry, mining, and oil and gas sectors in Western Canada. As a Fuel & Lube Technician, you will be entrusted with the important responsibility of servicing a wide range of construction and mining equipment safely and efficiently. The equipment includes Excavators, Dozers, Haul Trucks, Rock Trucks, Graders, and Loaders, all within a mining environment. Your role will involve lubricating components, fueling machinery, and performing oil and grease changes on off-road construction and mining equipment. You will be expected to operate the fuel and lube trucks responsibly, safely, and effectively, while maintaining professional and collaborative relationships with the Maintenance Department. This position also provides a unique opportunity for qualified candidates to transition into a Heavy Equipment Apprenticeship.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues.
- Fuel and grease all equipment daily.
- Diagnose and repair company assets, maintain repair order documentation, and support other maintenance personnel when required.
- Ensure the proper maintenance of the fuel & lube truck.
- Safely operate the fuel/lube truck to service large machinery.
- Implement and perform regular maintenance tasks on-site.
- Oversee and properly store essential supplies such as service kits, lubricants, and oils.
- Maintain detailed maintenance histories and relevant documentation.
- Take on additional duties as necessary, supporting the overall mechanical availability of production equipment.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, site regulations, and company policies.
- Be prepared for and open to learning.
- Maintain up-to-date certification and training as required.
- Arrive at work fit-for-duty each day.
- Ideal candidates will have experience working with Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, or Hitachi heavy equipment.
- An aptitude for technical and mechanical skills and knowledge of fluids used in mining equipment operations is considered an asset.
- At least one year of experience operating a fuel and lube truck is preferred.
- Being enrolled in a pre-apprenticeship or as a first-year heavy-duty technician is considered an asset.
- Mining industry experience is considered an asset.
- Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver's abstract required.
- Enrollment in a pre-apprenticeship program or as a first-year heavy-duty technician will be considered an asset.
- Experience in the mining industry is an asset.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver's abstract are required.
- The ability to complete detailed paperwork is necessary.
- Must pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and a breath alcohol test.
- Willingness to work up to 12-hour shifts, day or night, in all weather conditions and reside in remote camps on a rotational schedule.
