The City of Delta is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Tree Protection Officer to help enhance our urban forest and support responsible growth in our vibrant, growing community.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Superintendent of Urban Forestry, as the Tree Protection Officer, you will play a vital role in preserving Delta’s urban canopy by performing the field administration and compliance enforcement for the City's Tree Protection and Regulation Bylaw. This position supports the goals of our Urban Forest Strategy and enhances the livability of our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct site inspections to enforce tree protection regulations
- Review and process tree removal and replacement permit applications
- Collaborate with developers, residents, and City staff to ensure compliance
- Investigate complaints and bylaw infractions related to trees
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports and recommendations
- Educate the public on the value of trees and best management practices
- Provide departmental assistance in response to extreme weather events.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in arboriculture, urban forestry, environmental science, or related field
- ISA Certified Arborist and Tree Risk Assessment Qualification
- Knowledge of tree biology, construction impacts on trees, and relevant bylaws
- Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
