Systems Administration Coordinator

Bring your information technology expertise to the Office of the Public Guardian & Trustee (OPGT), Ministry of the Attorney General. In this complex integrated multi-platform and multi-protocol environment, you will perform a variety of systems administration, security and related project activities to support client applications and infrastructure.

About the job
As a Systems Administration Coordinator, you will:- monitor, track, document and report incidents, problems and solutions for I&IT technology components and systems;
- provide technical support and services for various systems administration, security and related projects;
- participate in providing learning support and helping users manage change resulting from applications/infrastructure change, systems administration decisions;
- perform technical aspects of single projects, including participating in planning, administering plans and scheduling, providing routine technical co-ordination and instruction to external service providers; administer and co-ordinate e-file transfers;
- develop, implement and monitor approved security standards for OPGT IT, ensuring they are compliant and integrated with enterprise and Justice Technology Services (JTS) standards;
- perform related administration activities such as monitoring costs, verifying that vendors' deliverables have met completely contract requirements before Manager authorizes payment; and
- remain current with skills and knowledge to provide back-up for other systems officers in the Unit
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
- You must be available for on call duties and after hours work such as for production support, deal with infrastructure issues, test/roll out new/changed systems, and enhancements and upgrades.
Technical Knowledge:
You have knowledge of:- applicable midrange and/or PC operating systems, system operations and system development used by clients (both server and desktop applications such as SharePoint, SQL Server, TaxPrep), JTS (infrastructure) and service providers
- pertinent system design and architecture techniques and standards
- network software, protocols, services, concepts and design
- security standards, principles and software such as antivirus software, system and services monitoring tools, firewalls, proxy software
- application support such as middleware and gateways, B2B and B2C
- intranet and internetworking - Web, Internet, browser and email software
- IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes, terms and definitions, to ensure compliance in solutions and documentation
- technical change management software, protocols and standards such as Remedy
Communication, Interpersonal and Team Leadership Skills:
You have:- knowledge of common adult training and education techniques to provide user support
- customer service techniques to provide data, reports, problem resolution, education and information
- team work and technical leadership skills to encourage good morale and high performance within cross-functional teams
- the ability to prepare input for technical reports and recommendations for audiences and/or decision-makers whose area of expertise may not be in I&IT systems
- manage diverse working relationships such as with application developers, network administrators, vendors with incident resolution
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
You have:- problem-solving skills to provide technical leadership and solutions which deal with a variety of advanced systems administration technical, operational and service problems
- troubleshooting and problem management skills
- tolerance for ambiguity to analyze problems and determine root causes.
- provide viable solutions for issues that deviate from routine tasks or involve unrelated processes and methods, such as different software systems or incompatible hardware/software
Judgement, Planning and Reasoning Skills:
You can:- ensure that ongoing technical, operational and service needs for I&IT applications and infrastructure are identified
- ensure that technical work, operations and/or services are prioritized, scheduled, monitored and evaluated; and that viable solutions are provided for management and clients
- make timely researched and evaluated recommendations
- alert the team and/or management at appropriate times regarding issues
- plan and conduct a variety of single projects, and balance competing time demands
