SUPERINTENDENT, MILL OPERATIONS
The Superintendent, Mill Operations will lead a multi-disciplinary team focused on delivering safe, responsible, and effective ore processing. The incumbent will be responsible for the development and implementation of safe milling practices as part of the operations ramp-up at Côté Gold. They will also oversee all mill production activities including planning, scheduling, execution, and improvement of work processes as well as budgeting, staffing, cost containment, and profitability. The Superintendent, Mill Operations will promote and respect IAMGOLD’s Culture, Health and Safety Code of Conduct, and the Environment.
Key Responsibilities
Area 1:
Ensure safety and environmental compliance.
- Responsible for ensuring the mill facilities remain in compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable Environmental Regulations, and Company Policies and Standards.
- Work collaboratively with Health and Safety staff to develop and implement Côté Gold Health and Safety Management Systems.
- Responsible for the monitoring and improvement of safety performance for employees and contractors.
- Ensure that all health safety programs are properly applied and that needed corrective measures are executed within set deadlines.
- Keep up to date with applicable laws and safety regulations and provide support to your team to ensure adherence to rules and regulations.
- Responsible for maintaining a high standard of housekeeping in all mill facilities.
- Respond to emergency situations and unusual operating conditions to ensure the safety of personnel and limit potential negative impacts on production, environment, and costs.
- Participate and lead risk assessments and incident investigations as required. Ensure appropriate actions are implemented to prevent a recurrence.
- Promote and monitor the utilization of the change management process to ensure the safe design and implementation of changes.
Area 2:
Develop and provide leadership to the team.
- Define and recruit for the Mill Operations team, in accordance with the organizational design strategy.
- Build and lead a dynamic team focused on mill operations execution.
- Create space for your team to be effective in delivering results.
- Actively engage in recruiting and developing a diverse mill operations team.
- Foster an inclusive work environment.
- Provide clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required to achieve business plans and production targets.
- Ensure that training is provided in accordance with the current and future needs of the mill.
- Ensure the required resources (people and equipment) are in place to achieve planned safe production while meeting planned costs.
- Promote a high-performance culture by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback and coaching
- Ensure that employees are kept informed of safety, production, and cost performance statistics, to encourage growth and participation in potential improvements to each KPI.
Area 3:
Assist in the development and achievement of the overall strategy and goals of the mill.
- Contribute to the management team to set the direction and establish the mid- to long-term operations and project development plans for the mill production department.
- Participate in the budgeting, and business planning processes.
- Provide advice to the Manager, Mill regarding the development and implementation of the mill budget ensuring that these budgets are respected. Seeks solutions to reduce costs.
- Leverage your team to provide the site with expert knowledge on mill production processes and practices.
- Develop and execute overall strategy for mill operations based on input from other departments and personnel.
Area 4:
Support operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Actively participate in mine mill interface activities to enhance / maximize process performance.
- Plan and implement strategies to maximize gold production at minimum operating costs.
- Observe and analyze operational performance. Report to the Manager, Mill and complete necessary adjustments in order to meet and exceed objectives.
- Monitor and review data, such as production reports, reliability trends, and other KPI’s.
- Collaborate with metallurgy, maintenance, and others to plan and direct mill production in order to deliver the Côté Gold business case.
- Develop and analyze new working methods in order to increase efficiency, reduce costs, reduce the risk of accidents, and improve environmental management and quality of work done.
- Encourage and promote continuous improvement at all levels. Support the identification, planning and implementation of high value improvement initiatives.
Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves
minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents
- College diploma or university degree in a relevant discipline (process technology, metallurgy, etc).
- Professional Engineer designation in Ontario is considered an asset.
Work experience - Nature & Length
- 10 years of gold processing plant experience, with at least 5 years leading others in operational roles.
Additional qualifications - Competency requirements
- Sound working knowledge of gold processing methods and procedures. Experience with crushing, milling, gravity gold extraction, leaching, CIP, elution, cyanide detox and thickening is considered an asset.
Good understanding and working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other applicable legislation and regulations for Mines and Mining Plants.
Ability to lead, provide support, maintain accountability, resolve conflict while building positive relationships, and maintain effective networks in a cross-cultural environment with internal and external stakeholders, industry associations and indigenous communities.
Knowledge of indigenous communities and indigenous issues related to the mineral industry.
