The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Superintendent, L&D to join our team in the Learning & Development Department based in Sudbury, Ontario.
This is a permanent on-site position, working Monday to Friday (8-hour shifts).
The Superintendent L&D Mines and Central Training Centre; Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship; Diamond Drill and Raisebore will support the employee lifecycle by enabling engaging and effective onboarding and development learning experiences that align with and support the overall organizational strategy and people strategy. This includes leading a team to effectively identify, plan, create, execute and continuously improve various learning programs and initiatives for employees and leaders across business and relies on building strong partnerships with various internal and external customers and stakeholders and utilizing leading learning practices, methods and platforms. This role ensures compliance with safety regulations, enhances workforce skills, and supports continuous improvement initiatives across multiple departments.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Oversee multiple departments through subordinate supervisors, establishing priorities, work standards, and managing staffing functions including hiring, discipline, and promotions.
- Lead training initiatives across mining plants, including the Central Training Centre, maintenance, apprenticeship programs, and drill rig operations, ensuring effective delivery and coordination.
- Collaborate with the Learning and Development Manager to develop strategic programs aligned with business goals, including annual roadmaps and priority initiatives.
- Manage apprenticeship and certification programs, including signing authority for multiple underground and surface drilling operations, ensuring compliance and program integrity.
- Serve as a union liaison on joint committees related to training, trades, and health & safety, fostering collaboration and compliance across departments.
- Partner with HR, Talent Management, and Health & Safety teams to design and implement leadership and employee development programs that promote key behaviors and competencies.
- Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness through program assessments, reporting on learning outcomes, and driving continuous improvement to maximize ROI.
- Oversee departmental budgets and resources, including training costs, maintenance plans, and inventory to reduce downtime, control costs, and enhance operational efficiency.
About You
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mining Technicians / Technologists program and/or Adult Education
Experience:
- Lead the design, deployment, and management of corporate learning programs and platforms.
- Develop and execute business strategy deployment processes, leveraging Agile methods and approaches.
- Manage projects that involve process improvement, problem-solving, and organizational development.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement training initiatives that drive business results.
- Manage the execution of training programs, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Skilled in using various systems, including MS Office, HR and learning systems, and data analysis tools.
Skills:
- Proven instructional design expertise, with experience in creating engaging and effective learning experiences.
- Strong facilitation, presentation, and leadership skills, with ability to communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
- Proficient in using learning technology and innovation to enhance training programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to present data in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
