Tourism Nanaimo is seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, and community-minded individual to join our team this summer as a Visitor Services Counsellor. Based at the Nanaimo Visitor Centre, located in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, and working at our summer kiosk and various community events, this role is all about connecting with visitors in meaningful and memorable ways.
As a frontline ambassador, you'll have the opportunity to share Nanaimo’s unique story, promote regional experiences, and help visitors discover everything our beautiful city and surrounding areas have to offer.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver warm, personalized customer service tailored to visitor needs.
- Promote local attractions, restaurants, scenic spots, and upcoming events.
- Distribute brochures, maps, and promotional materials from tourism partners.
- Provide recommendations for hiking trails, outdoor activities, and cultural sites.
- Assist visitors with booking accommodations and transportation.
- Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and in-person.
- Collect visitor statistics and support monthly reporting.
- Represent Tourism Nanaimo at public events and festivals.
- Assist with volunteer coordination and administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Outgoing, friendly, and welcoming personality.
- Exceptional communication and intercultural skills.
- Strong knowledge of Nanaimo and surrounding region, or eagerness to learn.
- Comfortable using computers, email, and social media platforms.
- Highly organized with strong time management and multitasking abilities.
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
- Interest in tourism, hospitality, or customer service industries.
- Must be available to work weekends and statutory holidays.
Eligibility
This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs. Applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Be a Canadian citizen, or a permanent resident,
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Job Type: Seasonal
Contract length: 3 months
Pay: $18.85 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
