Job Description:
The role of the Steward is to provide fast and effective cleaning of all kitchen utensils, dishware, glassware, and pots while ensuring the kitchen area remains clean and tidy. Once the dishes, pots, and pans have been cleaned, the Steward must ensure they are properly stored and organized so that other kitchen workers can access them immediately. When working the closing shift, the Steward is responsible for removing and securing the garbage inside the dumpsters. You will sweep the floors, mop, and make sure the dishwashing area is clean, neat, and organized. You must ensure no food scraps are left on the cabinets, sinks, tables, or dishwashing equipment. All food areas should be wiped down and sanitized.
Stewards must ensure compliance with all food safety requirements established by this organization. Occasionally, Stewards are asked to assist the cook with specific procedures and techniques related to food preparation and service. You should pay attention to the back-storage areas, coolers, and freezers.
Qualifications: The candidate must have a Food Safety Certificate, and a WHIMIS certificate is considered an asset. Previous experience would be an advantage.

Conditions of Employment:
A Steward should be able to bend, kneel, or stoop to pick up items such as loads of dishes, kitchen tools, machinery, and food preparation equipment. You must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds; equipment is available for heavier loads. Stewards must be able to tolerate the heat when dishwashing machines are running. They must also be able to work a flexible schedule according to business needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
