Position: Assistant Steward - Finance

UBCP/ACTRA is seeking an Assistant Steward – Finance to join our team.
Working within a collaborative, team environment, this Assistant Steward – Finance role will be focused on finances related to the Film, Television and New Media (FTVNM) department. The key responsibilities include the processing and reconciliation of payroll remittances received by the Union as required by the various FTVNM department collective agreements. This role will also provide overall support to the Finance department.
The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail, be proficient with the MS Suite and be familiar with standard debit/credit accounting procedures, enjoy and have proficiency with numbers and be skilled at discovering variances.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs general ledger account analyses and reconciliations as required.
- Performs all bank account reconciliations monthly.
- Re-issues all stale-dated ‘No Known Address’ cheques as required.
- Balances the monthly investment account statements.
- Liaises with the FTV and Commercials Assistant Stewards on payroll loading errors.
- Residuals postings and verifications for all Canadian and US bank accounts.
- Deposits all e-transfers on a daily basis.
- Assists in preparing year-end audit working files and liaison during process with auditors.
- Assists in developing and producing accounting reports.
- Performs other duties as necessary that are related to accounting support functions.
- Assists in mail outs, as required.
- Attends Membership Meetings, if required in the rotation.
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Employer.
- Reports to the Employer.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Undergraduate degree or post-secondary formal training in finance or accounting or a relevant discipline with a minimum of two (2) years of related experience is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working in accounting.
Must have experience doing high-volume bank reconciliations.
Must have experience dealing with large volumes of data, downloading, formatting and reconciling.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Intermediate computer skills using MS Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook), and experience with QuickBooks Online is an asset.
- Sensitivity and judgment in the handling of confidential information.
- Ability to analyze and problem solve, show initiative, and take ownership of tasks.
- Intermediate understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and modern banking processes.
- Exceptional administrative and time management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

OTHER:
HOURS OF WORK: 5 days per week (35 hours). Regular office hours M-F 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Eligible for the Work Life Balance schedule as per Article 21.07 of the UBCP/ACTRA and Unifor Local 3000 Collective Agreement.
SALARY: This position has a current annual salary of $77,832.13 pursuant to Appendix “A” of the UBCP/ACTRA/Unifor Local 3000 Collective Agreement.
