RK Solar & Automation Services Inc. manages solar preventative maintenance and repairs of solar assets for various clients across Ontario. Reporting to the Director/Owner, the Solar Technician Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Sr. Technician/Master Electrician at various solar worksites with general clean-up inspections, repairs.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist Sr. Technicians with maintenance and troubleshooting of solar equipment and facilities.
- Perform maintenance on racking/solar panels, trackers, central/string inverters, and other PV electrical equipment as assigned by the Sr. Technician.
- Conduct voltage readings as necessary, replace solar panels and investigate/repair string related issues/faults.
- Use available tools to monitor energy output and respond accordingly to issues requiring immediate corrective action.
- Adhere to all safety standards while completing assigned tasks. Complete Lock-out/Tag-out and job specific documentation.
- Daily recording all findings through an online reporting system (SiteDocs).
- General clean-up of site and facilities
- Washing/cleaning tools and equipment
Qualifications
- Experience in a related field; preferably in electrical or mechanical environments.
- Aptitude for mechanical and electrical equipment and tools.
Must have current and valid “Training at Heights” certification and “Ladder Safety” training OR be willing to obtain certification immediately upon hire.
Ability to work at heights and physically able to climb ladders, squat, kneel, bend, walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift approximately 50 lbs.
- Ability to read and write English to understand and comply with health & safety standards & documentation.
- Computer and digital literacy using mobile apps and software (report writing). Experience using MS Office/Excel/online reporting systems an asset
- Ability to travel within Ontario upon request. Occasionally may require overnight stays.
- Ability to work outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions, insects and pests
- Flexibility to work extended hours if necessary.
- Valid Driver’s license with clean driving record is preferred in order to drive company vehicle on work sites as needed.
- Adhere to all health & safety standards and practices.
Working conditions
· Most work sites are located outdoors and on rooftops
· The employee must be able to work in various weather conditions, particularly in hot and cold weather.
· This position rarely requires work in rainy/stormy conditions.
· Exposure to various wildlife, insects and other pests are common. Insect repellent is provided if needed.
· Some worksites are rooftop locations. The employee must be comfortable with heights and climbing ladders.
Hours of work consist of 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday, (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), however, some assignments/tasks may require longer time onsite. Occasional weekend work may be required.
Physical requirements
This position is physically demanding. Employees are required to work on solar farms in fields on uneven ground OR rooftops and therefore required to have the ability to climb ladders, kneel, squat, bend and walk and stand for long periods of time.
