Prairie Fence is a premier fencing company located in Parkland County, Alberta. Our mission is to provide the highest quality fencing solutions to satisfy the needs of every customer. We are seeking a highly motivated Lead Hand who is aligned with our mission and ready to step into a leadership role with potential growth into a Foreman position.
Key Responsibilities
- Fence & Gate Work: Install, remove, and repair various types of fences and gates (livestock, residential, commercial).
- Equipment Handling: Operate and maintain large trucks/trailers, skid steers, tractors, chainsaws, power tools, etc.
- Loading & Unloading: Organize and transport necessary equipment, supplies, and tools.
- Leadership & Teamwork: Motivate and guide crew members, delegate tasks efficiently, and foster a positive team environment.
- Problem Solving: Adapt to different project requirements, troubleshoot issues, and ensure quality standards are met
Qualifications & Skills
- Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated experience in leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to train and mentor others.
- Work Ethic & Physical Stamina: Fencing is labor-intensive and gruelling, often performed in harsh Alberta weather; reliability and consistency are essential.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure projects are completed accurately and safely while adhering to timelines.
- Adaptability: Flexible when facing new challenges or changing project scopes.
- Equipment Proficiency: Comfortable operating machinery; willingness to learn new equipment and techniques.
Nice to Haves
- Previous fencing or construction experience, mechanical knowledge, and relevant safety training (CSTS-20, First Aid & AED, CPR, H2S Alive, Global Ground Disturbance Level 2, TDG, Chainsaw Safety Awareness).
Must Haves
- Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle to commute to Prairie Fence headquarters (52221 Range Road 24 Parkland County).
- English fluency.
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
- Willingness to work out of town on occasion.
- Mechanical knowledge/experience (asset).
What We Offer
- Hours & Compensation:
- Full-time hours Monday to Friday (7am start), overtime, and occasional Saturdays.
- Pay range: $28–$32/hr, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Overtime paid at 1.5x.
