Job Title: Server
Job Overview: The Students’ Association of Olds College (SAOC) is mandated to promote the general welfare of students and to provide for the administration of student services, and one of our key student services is food & beverage operations. To that end, the Server supports the daily operations of The Crossing Restaurant Front of House. Reporting to the FOH Supervisor and Crossing Manager, the Server is responsible for delivering friendly, timely, and attentive service while maintaining a clean, professional dining environment. This position is ideal for someone looking to build hospitality skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Experience in food service or customer support is an asset, but training will be provided. Above all, the Server should demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and a collaborative attitude.
Objective of this Role:
- Deliver timely and courteous service to all guests in a manner consistent with The Crossing’s standards.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient service area and dining room.
- Support team members in delivering seamless service across all FOH and BOH interactions.
- Follow all SAOC and public health policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Key responsibilities/outputs:
- Greet guests promptly and professionally; present menus and describe daily specials.
- Take food and drink orders accurately using POS systems or tablets.
- Provide detailed menu knowledge, including ingredients, portion sizes, and allergens.
- Make thoughtful recommendations and upsell items when appropriate.
- Deliver food and beverages to tables in a timely manner.
- Confirm food orders are accurate and plated correctly before serving.
- Communicate any guest allergies, preferences, or special instructions to kitchen staff.
- Perform shift duties, including opening and closing tasks, side duties, and accurate cash-outs.
- Monitor guest satisfaction and respond to questions or concerns promptly.
- Clear and reset tables, restock stations, and maintain clean service areas.
- Follow all Alberta health and safety regulations and internal SOPs.
- Check customer identification when serving alcoholic beverages.
- Participate in catering events and other SAOC programming as assigned.
- Provide excellent service and support a positive team environment.
- Participate in concession service at athletic and campus events as scheduled.
Skills & qualifications:
- Up to 2 years of experience in a related position.
- Valid ProServe, ProTect (required)
- Food Safe Certification (must be willing to acquire)
- Standard First Aid is considered an asset.
- Ability to follow instructions, work efficiently, and support a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently

Position type: Part-time, temporary (contract ends April 24, 2026 with the possibility of renewal).
About SAOC: SAOC is an independent, non-partisan statutory corporation which operates in a not-for-profit fashion. We are incorporated by the Post-Secondary Learning Act to provide for the administration of student services and the promotion of the general welfare of the students of Olds College, who are our members. Our Board of Directors and Executive Council are Olds College students elected by their peers to serve one-year terms and set the strategic direction for the organization. This working board operates collaboratively with the Executive Director and core staff. The SAOC has four primary departments: governance, administration, food & beverage, and student experience. Our primary revenue source is membership fees, but we also own and operate two on-campus food service facilities, The Crossing Restaurant and Bloom Cafe. The SAOC and its subsidiaries are currently located at 4500 50 St, Olds AB T4H 1R6.
