Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures is filling one (1) Section Manager, Forest Health and Urban Forestry vacancy in either our Winnipeg or Brandon office location.
Conditions of Employment:

- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba class 5 driver's licence.
- Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
- Must be able to travel and work in the field in remote locations as required.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Post-secondary education in forestry, urban forestry or related discipline. An extensive combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in forest health and urban forest management.
- Knowledge and ability to implement and manage forest health projects and field programs with emphasis on planning and organizing program objectives, structure, and outcomes at an executive level.
- Experience in team leadership and supervisory skills including coaching and mentoring of staff and monitoring team performance.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with issues concerning forest health and urban forestry.
- Project management skills and the ability to lead multi-stakeholder groups to achieve project objectives within pre-determined deadlines.
- Thorough knowledge of governmental, departmental, divisional and branch responsibilities, policies and goals related to the natural resource sector in Manitoba.
- Strong interpersonal, problem solving, and consensus building skills, with experience managing internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Strong written communication skills with experience producing high-level authority seeking documents such as briefing notes or Treasury Board submissions.
- Political acumen demonstrated through experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues.
- Experience managing complex budgets.
Duties:
As a member of the division’s management team, the Manager of Forest Health and Urban Forestry is responsible to lead and manage forest health and urban forestry section staff, oversee the administration of the section’s programs and provide advice and support to the Director of the Forestry and Peatlands Branch.
The forest health and urban forestry position provides senior leadership for the program areas within the Forest Health and Urban Forestry Section. The Forest Health and Urban Forestry section monitors the health of Manitoba’s forests, works with communities to maintain and enhance their Urban Forests and supports the Branch by providing field staff to collect the data required achieve sustainable forest Management. The section is responsible for managing The Forest Health Protection Act.
