Hatley Memorial Gardens, located in Colwood, BC is currently recruiting for a full-time Seasonal Grounds Person.
The successful candidate for this position strives to keep pace with the ever-changing service demands and is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of our customers in a sensitive and professional manner.
This position is based on a 40 hour work week, and may change as required for the needs of the business, including working of overtime when required. Workers in this position are appointed on a temporary basis. Season will end November 28, 2025.
Position Role:
Perform grounds maintenance and property beautification at Hatley Memorial Gardens.
Key Duties:
Under the direction and supervision of Property Manager/Lead Hand, a Seasonal Grounds Person may be assigned to:
- Trim around memorials, trees, interment areas and property boundaries; cut grass and repair or replace turf.
- Planting and weeding of gardens.
- Water flower and planting beds, trees and turf areas.
- Remove garbage, dead flowers and plant materials from gravesites and other Burial Park property.
- Maintain and clean roads and pathways. Pressure washing of Products.
- Clean and maintain cemetery buildings, including but not limited to; sweep, vacuum and dust areas; maintain roads; paint equipment and buildings.
- Assist to prepare, open and close, set-up and remove equipment and materials for casket and urn interment services.
- Regularly check power equipment and vehicles for fuel, oil, maintenance and repairs. Perform basic, regular maintenance of power equipment and vehicles and cleaning of vehicle interiors and exteriors.
- Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities required for this role
- A team player, with a positive attitude and the ability to multitask and set priorities.
- Previous landscaping, horticultural and/or cemetery experience, and a demonstrated interest in working outdoors is an asset.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Use an assortment of hand tools, including but not limited to: shovel, rake, hoe, gardening shears, pruning saw, broom and mop.
- Operating assorted power equipment and vehicles, including but not limited to: trimmers, blowers, pruners, push and riding mowers, all terrain utility vehicles and trucks is an asset.
- Maintain a cooperative working relationship with all members of Hatley Memorial Gardens respond to enquiries from the General Public.

Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12 .
- A current and valid British Columbia driver’s license.
- Sufficient health, physical condition, strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of work in all types of weather.
Salary: $22.86 per hour
Schedule: 8 hour shift, Monday to Friday, Occasional Saturdays.
