Bodwell High School (www.bodwell.edu), founded in 1991, is Western Canada’s largest and most diverse international private school, serving students in Grades 8-12 from Canada and 40 other countries, the majority of whom reside in our onsite boarding facility. Bodwell stands out for its premier academic program alongside a cross-cultural boarding experience, guiding students to leading universities worldwide while giving families confidence in their child’s brightest future.
Our staff need to be culturally-sensitive and demonstrate a high level of compassion and flexibility to work in an ethnically-diverse environment. To serve our students, we have a team of 6-8 multilingual school counsellors. We are searching for a school counsellor to join our team as soon as possible, in time for our new student arrivals later this month.
The Primary Duties of the Counsellor are to:
- provide academic guidance and university application assistance
- offer social and emotional guidance for both international and local students - act as an intermediary between the school and parents
- update student information on our database
- collaborate with teachers, boarding advisors, coaches and administrators
The successful candidate must:
- be fluent in English in both verbal and written form
- possess a bachelor’s degree in social work, education, counselling psychology, educational counselling, education, or other relevant disciplines
- be able to work professionally, independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- illustrate values such as kindness, empathy and honesty
- have a passion for working with youth and exhibit excellent communication skills
- be comfortable with Microsoft programs and social media application
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
It would be an asset if the candidate:
- is well-connected in the North Shore and/or Metro Vancouver community
- has working fluency in one or more of our students’ mother tongues, notably Farsi, Spanish, and/or Portuguese
- has extensively travelled or lived in one or more of our students’ origin regions
- can assist with post-secondary guidance and admissions
- is familiar with the BC K-12 system, IB MYP, and Advanced Placement curriculum
- has had experience working with high school students, or other youth services
- has had experience working in study abroad industry.
