NATURE AND SCOPE
Under the supervision of the Associate Dean, Student Success, the Adapted Services Counsellor assesses students' needs related to their documented limitations, coordinates the accommodation processes, and offers support and guidance students with disabilities and learning difficulties, while ensuring a continuous collaboration with faculty and staff, toward creating and maintaining an inclusive learning environment that is conducive to students' success.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and coordinates the processes and procedures related to the adapted services offered at the College
- Ensures adherence to ministerial regulations and recommended practices regarding the delivery of adapted services to students in higher education
- Responds to inquiries from prospective students and their parents
- Evaluates the needs of students with disabilities and documented limitations, analyzes and interprets the documentation received, and assesses the needs in order to develop an individualized intervention plan
- Ensures the communication and implementation of intervention plans and their review and update, as needed
- Assists, advises, develops and offers training to college community to promote awareness and practice of inclusive practices within the college community
- Provides support and guidance to students regarding learning strategies, coping mechanisms, and other skills that promote learning and perseverance
- Liaises and refers students to external professionals or internal resources, as needed
- Prepares and maintains confidential student records and notes from follow-up communications in compliance with institutional policies and provincial regulations
- Keeps abreast of developments in terms of knowledge and best practices in adapted services and inclusive pedagogy
- Participates and represents the College in activities held within the college network regarding services offered to students with disabilities
- Collects data and prepares reports to monitor the use and effectiveness of services
- Performs other related tasks, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, psychoeducation or special education
- Graduate studies in a field as indicated above may represent an asset
- Relevant experience in counselling, special education, or support services for individuals with disabilities, preferably in an educational setting
- Knowledge of applicable laws and policies (e.g., Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, Accessibility Act)
- Experience working with young adults
- Knowledge of the different types of accommodations used in higher education
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and inclusive educational practices
- Knowledge of MS Office suite (testing may be required)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and French (testing may be required)
