Family Violence Prevention Counsellor
Wilmot & Wellesley Resource Centre (WWRC), a charitable, multi-service organization, requires a Registered Psychotherapist or Social Worker with a MSW for the part-time (21 hours/week) position of Family Violence Prevention (FVP) Counsellor at our New Hamburg office location.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Family Violence Prevention (FVP) Coordinator, the FVP Counsellor will provide trauma-competent, anti-oppressive and culturally safe individual and group psychotherapeutic support to women* and/or their children in the rural community who have experiences of abuse and violence in their relationships. After our initial intake process, the FVP Counsellor will receive referrals from the FVP Coordinator for clients wishing to engage in free psychotherapy through the Family Violence Prevention Program (FVPP) at WWRC. *inclusive of all those who identify as women
The FVP Counsellor will work as a valued team member with WWRC staff to provide wrap-around support services to clients from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds within our rural community. They will be responsible for attending staff meetings and trainings, and open to attending staff socials. WWRC strives to provide a workplace that is warm, welcoming, non-traditional, and supportive. When appropriate, the FVP Counsellor will refer clients to services inside and outside the agency to community partners to meet identified client needs. They will collaborate with the FVP Coordinator to offer psychoeducation to the public, facilitate support groups for clients, and on other program duties as applicable.
The FVP Counsellor will be someone who enjoys working in a creative and changing environment. WWRC does not provide onsite clinical supervision but will arrange offsite clinical supervision services. The FVP Counsellor will be available to work in-person, part-time hours, primarily during WWRC office hours (9 am – 4:30 pm) with occasional after-hours for fundraising events, remote sessions, and groups as applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
· Required: Master’s degree in psychotherapy/social work and is a registered member in good standing with the CRPO or OCSWSSW.
· Maintains Professional Liability Insurance of a minimum of $5, 000, 000 in coverage.
· Training in trauma-specific therapeutic modalities such as SE; IFS; EMDR; EFIT; CBT/DBT etc. is preferred.
· Has a warm, gentle, non-judgmental and compassionate approach that fosters client agency, strengths, boundaries, and choice in their journey towards healing and post-traumatic growth.
· Five years of experience utilizing individual psychotherapy and group facilitation skills with diverse populations who have experienced a range of trauma, including gender-based violence, intimate partner violence, family abuse, narcissistic abuse, human trafficking, and sexual assault.
· Training in trauma-informed addiction and mental heath support is an asset.
· Adept at intake, informed consent, record-keeping, assessment, risk management and safety planning, collaborative treatment planning and evaluation of therapeutic goals, therapeutic completion, crisis intervention, referrals, and reporting processes.
· Understands the impact of trauma on the brain, body, psyche, relationships, and social systems and how to integrate working with these aspects in the healing process.
· Ability to set and execute clear boundaries with clients, within their role at the agency, and engages regular self-care practices and ongoing professional development.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficient in the use of technology.
· Has a vehicle for reliable transportation.
· Clean Vulnerable Police Records Check.
