Job Scope:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the scope of this position involves leading the department to achieve standards related to cost, room efficiencies, waste, safety and productivity. It also involves the tear-down, cleaning, sanitizing and re-assembly of packaging rooms and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the sanitation staff, including planning workload and staffing schedules
- Participate in various employee relation matters such as training and employee support
- Work closely with management to ensure sanitation requirements are met
- Ensure room efficiencies and maintain product quality through effective cleaning and sanitizing of rooms and equipment
- Ensure and maintain quality and safety standards within the plant
- Tear down equipment in various packaging rooms in preparation for cleaning
- Clean and sanitize all packaging equipment and packaging rooms according to Quality Control, Company Standards and Kosher Requirements as outlined in SSOP’s
- Re-assemble and test all machinery and equipment in preparation for next day production and ensure everything is operating normally
- Interact with Maintenance, Quality Control, the Packaging Supervisor and other supervisory staff regarding equipment or room issues
- Housekeeping and cleaning of other areas of the plant as needed
- Complete documentation of GMP’s, H&S and HACCP related items
- Monitor and maintain the Quality, Food Safety and SQF systems
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation including the Clean and Pre-Operation Checklist and the MSS (Master Sanitation Schedule)
- Cross Train to learn how to dismantle and clean packaging equipment in all areas of responsibility
- Provide relief coverage for other Sanitation Operators and Janitorial
- Food Safety & Quality responsibility as outlined in SOP’s & other training materials provided and accurate record keeping
- Attend prescribed courses and training
- Other duties as assigned by Management
- Post Graduate Education or 3 years Supervisory and Sanitation experience in a regulated dairy or food manufacturing environment
- Solid knowledge of GMPs and CIP systems, as well as excellent sanitary habits and a strong understanding of HACCP and MSS as it applies to a food manufacturing environment
- Familiar with total quality management and continuous improvement processes
- Good decision-making & problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills, including written and verbal
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to be flexible in terms of shift work and perform other duties as required
- Physically capable of performing the demands of the job and ability to multi-task
- Mechanical aptitude and solid troubleshooting skills
- Proficient computer abilities using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and experience working with automated machinery
