Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Safety and Compliance Specialist to oversee and manage all aspects of safety and regulatory compliance within our trucking and transportation operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transportation safety, experience supervising teams, and a hands-on approach to managing daily compliance tasks related to trucks, trailers, and driver operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the Safety & Compliance team, ensuring daily tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with all applicable federal, provincial, and local transportation regulations (e.g., CVOR, DOT, NSC).
- Conduct regular audits of driver logs, vehicle inspections, and maintenance records.
- Oversee driver qualification files, training programs, and safety certifications.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and violations; implement corrective actions and preventive measures.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and ensure company policies reflect current standards.
- Coordinate with dispatch, maintenance, and HR departments to ensure seamless compliance integration.
- Prepare and present safety reports and compliance metrics to senior management.
- Foster a culture of safety and accountability across the organization.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a safety and compliance role within the trucking or transportation industry.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams or departments.
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards in Ontario and across Canada.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficient in using compliance software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Valid driver’s license: additional certifications in safety or compliance are an asset.
