Overview
Autism Day Program is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Respite Worker to provide temporary relief for primary caregivers of kids/teens with special needs. This role is crucial in ensuring that clients receive the necessary support while allowing their caregivers to take a much-needed break. The ideal candidate will have experience in working with kids/teens with developmental disabilities (Autism, ADHD, Mental Health) and a strong understanding of the unique challenges people with developmental disabilities face on a daily.
Duties
- Provide personal care assistance to clients which can include bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- If necessary, administer medications as prescribed and ensure adherence to medication schedules.
- If necessary, assist with mobility and transfers, including heavy lifting when necessary.
- Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote mental and physical well-being.
- Monitor clients' health status and report any changes to the supervisor
- Support clients with developmental disabilities care by providing companionship and maintaining a safe environment.
- Maintain a clean and safe living space for clients, ensuring all hygiene standards are met.
- Collaborate with families and other healthcare providers to help implement individualized care plans.
Requirements
- Previous experience in working with kids/teens with Developmental Disabilities (Autism, ADHD, )
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Empathy and patience when working with individuals facing mental health challenges or disabilities.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid is required but can assist you with certification
- Vulnerable Sector Check within last 6 months is required
- Drivers License and access to a personal vehicle is required
