What to expect in the role:
This position will be working with female individual who is a client at New Age Services and who resides with a Supportive Roommate. This individual has several diagnosis such as cerebral palsy and epilepsy and also uses a wheelchair. We are in search for a regular respite provider with an accessible home (inclusive of the washroom), that this individual can come for respite for two days at a time, every other weekend. This individual also requires support with personal care. During her respite stay, the individual is happy to engage in activities that foster community inclusion such as going to local parks/ dog parks, going to church, going for outings to the movies or out for meals etc. The individual is very social and enjoys engaging in discussions, so attentive listening and patience are essential qualities. Additionally, the candidate must foster a positive atmosphere within their home for the individual, offering guidance and creating a space where the individual can thrive and feel comfortable.
Schedule & Pay:
The position offers a rate of maximum $ 654 monthly bases. The schedule of respite every other weekend (two days)
Home Environment:
Your home can be located anywhere throughout the city as long as it is wheel chair accessible. The Supportive Roommate also has adaptable equipment that can be shared with the respite provider such as a commode, and a mobile ramp (that will work for up to two steps)
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of a Diploma or Certificate in the Human Services field or Disability Sector
- Must have valid class 5 drivers license and a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance
- Must know to swim
- Provide Home insurance and Commercial Liability insurance
- One to two years relevant experience in the human services field
- Intermediate in computer skills
- Minimum required training in Emergency First Aid & CPR Level A
- Willing to make appropriate modifications for the individual’s access requirements in the home
- Home visit & assessment required
- Previous experience working with seniors would be an asset
- Previously trained in and have experience with medication administration
- Other current and relevant trainings such as Non-violent Crises Intervention, Abuse Prevention Response Protocol, Positive Behavior Supports, etc.
- Additional training requirements may include Mental Health First Aid
