Organizational Status
The Research Project Manager coordinates and manages research focused on clinical trials in Electrophysiology, particularly addressing screening, interventions and digital health. The Research Project manager will work closely with industry sponsors and Academic Research Organization to develop clinical trial capacity, based at the Centre for Cardiovascular Innovation (CCI;

). Domains of work will include engagement with RCTs, training and mentorship, patient engagement, peer review and grant development, establishing national and international partnerships. At least one RCT will be launched within the coming year, with activities from initiation through to planning, execution, control and closing on the entire life cycle of project(s). This role is responsible for coordinating and managing day-to-day aspects of research projects, including virtual and onsite research activities, preparation of research ethics applications and grant applications, study advertising, data collection, manuscript preparation and submissions, and knowledge translation.Organizational Status
This position works within UBC Centre for Cardiovascular Innovation under the supervision of Director of Academic Research Organization (ARO) and Principal Investigators within the Division of Cardiology. Collaborates with researchers, coordinators, and hospital staff to ensure that study-related tasks are completed. The Research Project Manager works with Vancouver General Hospital, University of British Columbia, granting agencies, clinical research ethics board, sponsors, and industry representatives as part of the conduct of studies
Work Performed
Works with members of the research team to establish research project proposals, protocols, objectives, timelines and deliverables.- Executes research projects according to research methodologies and plans, facilitates consensus with stakeholders as needed, and manages and ensures the successful completion of projects.
- Monitors project progress according to project plans and reports on the status of projects.
- Manages competing demands for scope, time, costs, risk, obstacles, and quality while keeping the project on budget and keeps management aware of the situation.
- Acts as a resource to the research team; advises the research team on regulatory requirements.
- Assesses project risks, identifies risk mitigation strategies, and monitors risk throughout the project.
- Establishes roles and responsibilities of team members, identifies skills required, and discusses timelines for the project. Directs work of team members as applicable to project.
- Oversees study recruitment and data collection and provides support for data analysis.
- Works with Principal Investigator(s) to identify and explore funding opportunities. Coordinates and engages in developing grant applications, reviewing documents, and budget forecasting.
- Prepares ethics applications and submissions, manuscripts and submissions, posters, and presentations.
- Designs and develops data collection methodologies, instruments and databases.
- Conducts preliminary data analysis on study databases.
- A key liaison with research manager, directors, Principal Investigator (PI) and sponsors.
- Attends education sessions related to clinical and regulatory updates, and professional development.
- Carrying out all other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of position

Errors will impact current and subsequent projects.
a) Lack of careful attention to regulatory guidelines and approvals could suspend Investigator/physician and hospital/University as a site for further research and/or funding. The
performance of research projects must strictly conform to appropriate regulations:
- Personal: maintaining professional behavior and respect for patients and staff
- Local: UBC Clinical Research Ethics Board, and Good Clinical Practice
- Provincial: B.C. Privacy Act
- Federal: Health Canada, International Conference on Harmonization, Tri-Council Policy Statement
- International: U.S. Federal Code of Regulations (FDA), Declaration of Helsinki
b) Lack of study enrollment and completion of work according to deadlines would threaten loss of funding and consideration for future invitations to participate in projects.

- Functional knowledge of SAS or R, word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management, and database applications and software.
