Position Description


The Clinical Research Project Assistant (CRPA) will work closely with the Clinical Research Manager and/or Principal Investigator to assist in the operations of clinical research studies in pediatric oncology supportive care and quality of life. The Clinical Research Project Assistant coordinates clinical research studies according to regulatory and institutional guidelines and requirements. This includes coordinating patient recruitment and data collection, study administration, preparing consents and paperwork required by the Research Ethics Board, and organizing data entry and analysis. The CRPA also assist in the preparation of study results, including presentations, progress reports, and manuscripts. This position is fully onsite.

Here's What You'll Get to Do:

Project Related (60% of role):

  • Assist with the conduct of a variety of studies focused on supportive care in children undergoing chemotherapy, including developing and monitoring timelines for study.
  • May assist Principal Investigator (PI) in new research proposals and preparation of grant applications; Contribute to preparation of reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Assist in design of case-report forms and/or questionnaire
  • Develop informed consent documents based on regulations, REB consent templates and institutional requirements. Submit to REB and coordinate revisions. Assist PI with annual approval process and amend protocols and consents as required.
  • Confirm eligibility of patient, obtain informed consent and conduct participant screening, recruit and enroll subjects
  • Encourage and foster collaborative relationships with healthcare team at SickKids, other participating centres
  • Administer study questionnaires and conduct interviews with children with cancer, their parents, and health care professionals. Conduct health chart reviews.
  • Assist with ongoing data cleaning and quality measures.
  • Validate data queries generated as part of the Data Sciences Unit
  • Assist with REDCap database design, in conjunction with Principal Investigator, Research Manager and Data Analyst

General Administrative (40% of role):

  • Assist with tasks related to grant and/or manuscript preparation
  • Organize a variety of meetings/conferences/events and make arrangements including meeting rooms, meals, and audiovisual equipment services
  • Assist in training/orientation of new research staff
  • Prepare, submit invoices and maintain budget records

Here's What You'll Need:

  • Post-secondary degree in health sciences
  • Experience in a clinical research setting is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and/or youth
  • An interest in and knowledge of pediatric oncology is an asset
  • Excellent project and time management skills and a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in a diverse team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated creativity and latitude in problem solving, including the ability to prioritize and execute multiple competing tasks
  • A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives

Employment Type: Temporary, Full-time with modified benefits (1 year Contract with possibility of extension)
