Position Description
Clinical Research Project Assistant
Dr. Ratjen's Cystic Fibrosis Clinical Research Team is currently recruiting for a Clinical Research Project Assistant. The research team investigates the physiological principles of the multiple breath washout technique, and how this new technology can be applied in young patients with cystic fibrosis to detect and monitor functional changes of the lungs. A major focus of our research is to apply this technology as an end point for clinical trials, and routine clinical practice. You will work closely with the Clinical Research Coordinator and Principal Investigator to assist in study operations including many of the basic tasks of the clinical research process (i.e. participant recruitment, data collection, data entry). A major focus of this role will be conducting breathing tests (multiple breath washout, spirometry, plethysmography) on children from preschool to adolescence.
Here's What You'll Get to Do:
- Assist with participant recruitment and study follow-up including scheduling follow-up appointments.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of REB applications, amendments, renewals as well as any other documents as required
- Prepare study case report forms and assemble packages of questionnaires.
- Assist with preparation for audits and site visits.
- Assist the research team in maintaining and ordering lab supplies.
- Conduct medical literature searches; maintain literature databases; retrieve articles from library
- Check data for accuracy and completeness; score data; enter data, including data re-entry; data cleaning
- Conduct health chart reviews
- Prepare and present educational materials to internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform routine and special pulmonary diagnostic procedures.
- Work with the Lead Respiratory Therapist to apply newly developed standards for data quality for internal and external studies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Here's What You'll Need:
- Post-secondary degree in sciences, social sciences or a health-related discipline
- At least 1 year of clinical research experience
- Experience working with children is an asset.
- Ability to function independently yet collaboratively within a team.
- Attention to detail and efficient time management skills.
- Possess current knowledge of regulations and policies governing clinical research (e.g. Tri-council Policy Statement, ICH Guidelines, Good Clinical Practices, and Health Canada and FDA regulations)
- Excellent problem solving, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Advanced proficiency in computers.
- Presentation skills an asset.
- A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives.
