As a Clinical Resource Educator with VCH you will:
- Be designated as the Regional Clinical Resource Educator specializing in advanced practice for the designated populations from a physical therapy perspective.
- Provide regular and ongoing clinical consultation, clinical guidance and clinical/ technical education for physical therapists working with this population across the health authority.
- Analyse literature and trends.
- Identify staff educational needs.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs and clinical practice standards and guidelines in collaboration with Clinical Education, Practice Leadership and Operations partners.
- Recommend changes to modify/change current clinical practices.
- Provide formal feedback and contribute to certain aspects of the evaluation on clinical/technical competency of clinicians.
- Initiate and participate in knowledge translation activities and facilitate an evidence-based culture and community of practice.
- This position will support Rehabilitation Assistants.
Education & Experience
- Degree in Physical Therapy.
- Five (5) years' recent, related physical therapy experience in the designated practice area.
- Completion of a professional instructional program for teaching.
- Experience as an advanced practitioner and/or clinical instructor in interventions related to the designated populations, creating educational materials, implementing education strategies, utilizing knowledge translation abilities, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Master’s Degree in Education preferred but not required.
- Current full registration as a Physical Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
- Suggested membership with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
- Valid BC Driver's License and access to a vehicle, as travel within the VCH geographic area may be required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of Physical therapy theory, and practice within a client and family centred model.
- Comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based Physical therapy practice related to specialty clinical area.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the standards and guidelines established by the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC and the Canadian PT Association.
- Comprehensive knowledge of legislation as pertaining to Physical therapy practice
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable VCH clinical practice guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
- Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety and to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of teaching/guiding/coaching approaches and strategies to include tele-health and on-line mediums.
- Comprehensive knowledge of adult education principles, methods, and tools.
- Comprehensive knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
- Comprehensive knowledge of knowledge translation process and methodology.
- Demonstrated ability in evidence-based practices and ability to demonstrate, teach, consult, orient and/or train both one-on-one and in groups.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with (both verbally and in writing), and to deal effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care professionals, clients and their families, and external agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member, mentor, coach, and facilitator.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work, and to adjust to new or unanticipated events.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
- Demonstrated ability to develop project plans and implement new projects.
- Demonstrated skill and ability to operate related equipment and techniques appropriate to clinical areas.
- Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Computer literacy to lead technology-based practice education and support.
