What is the opportunity?
The Quantitative Investments team at RBC Global Asset Management (GAM) team is looking for a research analyst with experience in quantitative equity investing who is looking for an opportunity to be a key contributor in the development and enhancement of systematic investment processes. The research analyst will execute research projects, contributing to initial proposal, data validation, hypothesis testing, measurement of investment impact and implementation. You will play a critical role on multi-disciplinary project teams and carry projects through to completion on tight deadlines. You will collaborate with quantitative researchers, portfolio managers, and technology specialists.
The Quantitative Investments team employs a systematic quantitative approach to the management of equity strategies implemented via mutual funds, hedge funds, segregated accounts and ETFs. The team takes a multi-factor approach to investment solutions. The models are data-driven and grounded in sound fundamental and economic rationale.

Implement and execute quantitative research in the areas of alpha generation, risk management, portfolio construction and implementation
Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary project teams consisting of research analysts, portfolio managers, data specialists and technology analysts and developers
Remain at the cutting edge of research and development in quantitative investments recognizing that we must continually evolve our investment skills and processes
Creatively apply your deep expertise in one or more critical skill areas to answer research questions. Skill areas include empirical finance, portfolio theory and optimization, accounting, statistics and machine learning, applied mathematics, and data science

What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
An exceptional level of curiosity, and a strong drive and focus on driving investment impact through research
3+ years of research experience in quantitative finance applications; buy-side quantitative investing experience is strongly preferred
Bachelor’s or, preferably, Master’s degree in Finance, Applied Economics/Econometrics/Statistics, Engineering, or Applied Science
Creativity in research and problem-solving
Possession of a broad set of technical skills as required to implement data-intensive quantitative research: programming experience in Python (scientific-computing stack), Matlab, SQL and related languages
Strong communication and organizational skills
Nice to Have
Expertise in quantitative investing, empirical asset pricing, portfolio theory, machine learning, numerical optimization, and/or financial data science
Completion or enrollment in CFA
