· *Annual vacation with pay at 1.66 working days for each calendar month to a maximum of 20 working days per year.

Program Facilitator - Queer & Trans Youth (YAAHA)

(Temporary, Part-time 10 hours per week)

(Starting ASAP – 1 year contract)

(Bargaining Unit Position)

The Program Facilitator, Queer & Trans Youth is responsible for supporting collaboration between community partners, planning focused activities/workshops for Queer & Trans youth at YouthLink various sites and one-on-one supports. The Program Facilitator, also provides referrals for parents or caregivers and a referral to a support group for caregivers and parents. Program Facilitator supports partnership meetings, research, create, and promote resources to support the development of Queer & Trans youth groups.

Highlights of Your Role

· Facilitates weekly programs for YAAHA youth across YouthLink sites that offers opportunities to socialize, build self-confidence and develop new skills, address issues around gender identity and sexual orientation and connect to networks and services that value the strength in their orientations and/or identities.

· Gathers and creates queer & trans youth resources and materials for on-site use

· Support Trans/Queer youth across YouthLink programs and within the Scarborough community

· Provides one-on-one supports to Trans/Queer youth with YouthLink & Scarborough community

· Provides referrals for parents or caregivers and a referral to a support group for caregivers and parents

· Provides safe and affirming space where youth will feel able to receive support and mentoring from the facilitator and from each other.

· Provides intake, case management and referral for new and ongoing program members.

· Responds to requests for service (telephone and in person), determines eligibility, recommending and/or referring to alternate services, providing consultation and crisis intervention where appropriate.

· Engages and supports parents/significant people in the youth’s life and offers referral and applicable resources where appropriate.

· Promotes the program in Scarborough, particularly in high schools (through guidance counselors, social workers and Gay Straight Alliances), community service partners and through our website and social media tools.

· Develops and implement strategies to engage YAHAA youth groups in gathering youth perspectives in assessing needs and service gaps for youth in Scarborough.

· Produces report summarizing findings and recommendations on a yearly basis

· Develops and implements communications strategy to raise awareness and disseminate report to relevant stakeholders

· Ensures safety procedures and that documentation is submitted to the Manager regarding safety as required.

· Maintains accurate and up to date client documentation and reporting as required by the organization and funder.

· Attends training development opportunities as required

· Other duties as assigned.

This position is also expected to take all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect their health and safety and that of co-workers by complying and demonstrating knowledge of the policies, procedures and safe practices.

Highlights of What You Bring

· Undergraduate degree in Social Work or diploma in Social Services Worker or Degree/Diploma in Child and Youth Worker or a combination of relevant education and experience.

:

· Two (2) year’s personal or professional experience in a similar role working with queer/trans youth.

· Knowledge of child and adolescent development and related research (asset)

· Demonstrated experience with and acquired knowledge of issues impacting youth with gender identity and sexual orientation struggles and issues.

· Demonstrated experience and skill in supporting youth in self advocacy and to take on peer leadership roles with groups and engage other young people.

:

· Demonstrated experience providing one-on-one supports to queer & trans youth

· Demonstrated group facilitation skills and community based outreach skills.

· Working with Queer/Trans youth certification-an asset

· CPI (Non- Violent Crisis Intervention-asset

· Trauma informed training – an asset

· Demonstrated strong group leadership and program management skills including managing budgets and proposal / report writing.

· Demonstrated experience in supporting youth leadership / peer mentoring skills in older youth.

· Ability to form strong community partnerships, knowledge of relevant referral sources.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Excellent skills in computer software and social media applications.

· Starting $50,105 (to be pro-rated based on hours worked)

· The position holder must be able to lift tables and program materials when setting up community space and workshops on a regular basis.
