The Role
As Plant Manager, you will oversee all operations of the lettuce processing facility, including washing, processing, packaging, warehousing, shipping, and maintenance. You will be accountable for ensuring safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory compliance—working in close collaboration with corporate departments.
This is a strategic leadership role focused on operational excellence, continuous improvement, and supporting the long-term sustainability and growth of the organization in alignment with VegPro’s global vision.
Main Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Operational Leadership
- Define and lead plant strategies and action plans to meet performance goals within budget
- Plan and allocate resources to improve operational efficiency and promote continuous improvement
- Actively contribute to investment and expansion decisions
- Ensure adherence to food safety and environmental standards (HACCP, GFSI, etc.)
Production & Project Management
- Coordinate daily operations and large-scale projects (e.g., plant expansion, equipment installation)
- Supervise critical infrastructure activities in collaboration with engineering and maintenance
- Oversee production continuity during organizational changes or emergency situations
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all safety and labor regulations
- Implement quality improvement initiatives and reduce internal errors and quality-related costs
- Schedule and oversee preventative/corrective maintenance programs
People Management & Team Development
- Lead a team of 5–7 direct reports, overseeing workforce planning and performance management
- Foster effective communication between employees, managers, and corporate stakeholders
- Support union relationships (UFCW) and ensure policy compliance
- Develop talent by evaluating performance, planning development, and creating succession paths
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in administration, operations, food science, or engineering—or equivalent experience
- 5–10 years in a management role, ideally in produce, perishable goods, or food manufacturing
- Deep knowledge of food production and operational excellence methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and safety best practices
- Experience managing in a unionized environment
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Fluent in English (spoken/written); French or Spanish is an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to manage multiple projects under pressure
- Willingness to travel occasionally and adapt to operational demands
